So Auburn hasn't lost to a mid major in 25 years

#16 Auburn lost to Southern Miss 24 years 9 months and 26 days ago. The date was 10/5/1991. Brett Favre was an Atlanta Falcon.

Congratulations on also being the only SEC program with a losing record to Vandy.

I'm honestly more confused about why Auburn hired him in the first place. He had two years of HC experience prior to being hired at Auburn: 3–9 and 2–10 campaigns at Iowa State. Going 3–9 at Auburn - a team that's forced to play teams with a pulse - seemed like the natural progression of things. Gene Chizik's NC is the most fluky thing college football has ever seen.

Oh, well. Auburn's good luck in 2010 makes up for their shitty luck in 2004.

Auburn fans trying to deflect from their 2012 campaign, easily the most embarrassing season any "big 6" SEC program has had in over 50 years.

Lets see. What else has Bama done in the last 15 years?
Would you swap successes with Alabama?

In 2012 he went 3-9. Look closer though and the games weren't even close. Teams like A&M, Bama and UGA all called off the dogs in the first half against Auburn that season.

The talent was better than that and it wasn't just about trying to run a different O...he lost the team because he had a couple of snakes on his coaching staff and he wasn't a strong enough personality to keep them in check.

In 2011 he went 8-5 but it was a much worse 8-5 than say Gus' 7-6 last year. The 2011 team wasn't competitive against anyone with a pulse.

The question about why he was hired is probably the better rabbit to chase, but as has been stated thankfully he led 2010 and because he did he'll always have a place in Auburn history.

He should not have been hired. Who else hires Mr. 5-19??? He won with Tubs players and a great QB and an innovative offense lead by Gus. 2012 was the worse year EVER with no chance of getting better in 2013. He lost the team.

Did I say they didn't? We've been beaten by lots of mid-majors...but I'm not the one mouthing off 'bout never losing to 'em...

Agreed. 2010 was a perfect storm for Chizik...especially considering y'all had Fairley as well...AU had the best offensive and defensive player in the nation that year...

Nothing happened to him. He never should have had the job in the first place. A freak show collection of assistants that could be an episode of where are they now?

But...a skilled & experienced OL with the perfect QB to run the improv offense, a very good RB, TE and speed WRs. And a difference making DL, especially Fairly.

I bet there is more videos and pictures of Cam in class at Auburn than any other NCAA athlete in history. The last few years as he completed his degree it was like a PR show to the point that he didn't walk at graduation because he was concerned it would take away from the rest of the students.

I think it's very true that despite Gene's success in 2010, many Auburn people never really thought the fit was right.

Most of us were livid and/or baffled by the hire. And while outsiders say things like "we thought he'd be there for decades," I honestly don't know any AU people who thought like that. I understand the sentiment after 2010, but be honest, did any of you at any time ever envision a statue of Gene Chizik in front of JHS? I'm guessing not, he just never commanded admiration like that.

It just always seemed a little off, even when things were going extremely well.

The truth is AU fans were tired of watching paint dry on Offense the last few years of TT. When they hired Gene it look like status quo until he hired Gus. When Gus left, Gene went back to the status quo. When that failed, he was out.
