So, what are we getting here? Don’t know anything about this kid.

Hard to say. He never really got much run. He’s an athletic guy obviously but never was able to break through the depth chart.

He’s big and athletic. Other that that, who knows? He didn’t play much but how could he seeing what Stetson and Beck have accomplished?

Former 5 star
was committed to OU and flipped to us
from a town very close to Athens
mobile
strong arm
developed here for 3 years
likely better than any recent UK QB

It sounds like he’s going to be Kentucky’s guy. The other two QBs below Leary just announced transfers.

I would assume anyone would be an upgrade over that bum UK had playing QB this year.

Go to YouTube and look up “the film guy”. He’s got a pretty good segment regarding Brock today.

Can he play on our bowl game, because I'm not sure we have a qb on the team right now.

I have no idea honestly. He’s graduated already. Would be cool to see

I think he will greatly improve your offense. He is a true dual threat with a good arm.

I’d say the biggest reason he never became the guy here is kind of 2 fold.
A) he played very low high school competition. At 6’3” 220 he was probably bigger than a lot of the defensive linemen he played. I played in the same classification as a 6 ft 230 offensive tackle. So with that comes certain things he needed to work on to adjust to SEC competition.
B) which brings us to his Tebow like throwing motion that he had to totally revamp once he got to Athens. The coaches weren’t going to let him use such an elongated motion.

I’d say Bennett and Beck are two reasons he didn’t play. Two pretty good ones.

Iirc Leary is staying for the bowl game. Bench is gonna be thin though

Great kid.
Coaches son.
He is strong in the weight room
Strong arm.
Strong hair and beard game.
He struggled his first redshirt year on scout team (a lot of the gunner Stockton buzz came the following year with how good he was on scout team).
But vandagriff has appeared to be ahead of gunner in our Monken/Bobo offense.
Vandagriff admits that he is working on accuracy.
That may be a carryover from high school.
It may be from working on fundamentals (changing his throwing motion and needing more reps).
Poor man's Justin Fields as a runner.
I haven't really seen a ton of throws to evaluate his new motion.

Yeah good summary above by meansonny.
Likely a good leader and will be a ++ runner. Not likely to be consistently accurate passer - had the YIPS the first few years on campus.
Opponents will have to game plan for his ability to run.
As a Kentucky fan, probably a good comp would be a less accurate Will Levis

I mean yes, but I didn’t feel the need to list the obvious. Just was updating UK folks on the stuff they might not already know about.

Congrats on the pickup UK

Kentucky fans seem optimistic

Strong arm and good runner - had issues with accuracy and touch from what I’ve read. He’s a great pickup - just need to make sure your OC calls a lot of designed running plays for him.
