Why is LSU the second best favorites according to Vegas then?
Posted on 8/19/16 at 12:03 pm to mizzoukills
Florida State and LSU both return enough starters from 10 win teams to validate the opinion of them being contenders. Coupled with the fact that two of the teams on your contender list play the aforementioned teams on the road no less makes them by default "real" contenders.
I sincerely hope you are correct

realistically, would you be willing to take a ban bet for that prediction?
I never take ban bets. I care too much about my contributions to this place.

of course you don't. how about an actual bet then?

The only two on the list with proven offensive production capable of the NC is Clemson & Oklahoma. Not to say that it couldn't be any of them. If forced to choose from that list I'd pick Alabama just because it's Alabama.

These are the teams I see having realistic shots at winning their respective conference:
Big 10 - Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State
Pac 12 - USC, UCLA, Stanford, Oregon, Washington
Big 12 - Oklahoma, TCU (I wouldn't be completely surprised if Texas joined this discussion)
ACC - Clemson, Florida State, maybe Louisville and Miami as dark horses
SEC - Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss (I want to put Tennessee, Florida and Georgia here, but I have to see an East team win the SECCG before I do that, this year it will have been 8 seasons since that last happened)
You also need to include Notre Dame in this discussion. And, if Houston went unbeaten, with a win over Oklahoma, they would definitely be in the discussion. I don't see the Pac-12 winner going to the CFP because I think they will have at least two losses. A two loss SEC champion gets in over any other two loss conference champion.
So, here's my list:
Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Oklahoma, TCU, Clemson, FSU, Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Houston
I think it's funny how you excluded Ole Miss whom Bama hasn't beaten since 2013 and who was a ridiculous, wacky 4th and 25 miracle play from getting to Atlanta last year and keeping Bama out.
Alabama fans act like Saban's run has been completely dominant, but he's only gone one season (2009) without losing a conference game and winning the SECCG. Heck, even crappy LSU and Auburn have done that since then.

you believe all those 5 teams will win their conferences. If any of them doesn't, you lose. Additionally, if any team makes the playoffs that isn't on your list of 5, you also lose.

No way on Earth is Ole Miss going to win the SEC.
They've never even played in the title game. Not only that, but they just lost three first round draft picks.
Just no.

Did you see how good Chad Kelly was last year in his first year in the system? I think they'll be one of the best teams offensively in the SEC, even with the losses of Treadwell and Tunsil, especially if they continue to get more of a ground game going. And they have been stout defensively under Freeze. Again, I understand they lost some pieces, but they'll be good enough to win most of their games, I think.
But I mostly like them because they have the best QB BY FAR in the conference. No one else comes close.

I do agree that Alabama has the clearest shot in the SEC... but I think FSU beats Clemson. If an ACC team wins the national championship this season it will be FSU.
I personally would love for Alabama to play FSU in the natty, then turn right back around and play them first in 2017.

On the other hand, I think it's funny how hard you're knighting for Ole Miss. NOW THAT'S FUNNY!

They're gonna lose two off the top.
Alabama is going to kick their arse, and Arkansas is going to beat them again. So I guess they can hope everyone else loses 3, but I doubt it.

What's so funny about it? If you're so great, and they've beaten you two years in a row, I think it's funny how much you're discounting them.
