you guys have to understand....penn state fans are among the most self righteous, sanctimonious assholes you will ever meet. up until the day that sandusky was convicted, penn state fans swore up and down about "success with honor" and joe paterno's "grand experiment" to produce special young men. nevermind the fact that paterno and penn state lead the big ten in arrests and criminal behavior during the last several years of paterno's tenure, to say nothing of the sandusky affair.

Very true, and the aftermath of the Sandusky trial really threw back the curtain on just how horrible their fan base is.
However, not to play devil's advocate, but overzealous fanhood makes sports fans do a lot of awful things in defense of their team (insert joke about Bama fans killing each other). It really is one of the more depressing things about sports fans in the 21st century, and it seems to be getting worse with social media. I die a little inside every time I see some fan tell a sports writer "kill yourself" on twitter or in the comments section, and it's heinous when grown people attack high school kids on twitter when they commit to play a sport elsewhere.
There really are very few fans nowadays who can look at what their team/school does objectively. Of course, what Penn State fans were excusing and trying to legitimize was far far worse than any on-field result or recruiting outcome, especially since they'd been touting this ruse of "winning the right way" and all that crap.
TL;DR - most sports fans nowadays are fricked up in the head.

Doesn't Penn State have the largest alumni base in the country? I believe that makes it the very definition of a diploma mill.
I knew a guy who went to undergrad at USC, and grad school at PSU. He didn't have a single decent thing to say about the place, and laughed about its "rigorous academic standards."

That's true. I've always heard that from my Michigan and Notre Dame friends living up that way.

At best, this is incompetent reporting. I see that the comments on the article at the link rightfully hammer the reporter. Franklin said nothing that disparaged Vandy.
