I liked Vanderbilt being good. There is no reason a private school can't be good at football, especially in what I hear is an awesome city.

It sucks they are going back to suckness for a while.

Wow, someone forgot to tell him to exit gracefully. Vandy was never a threat to PSU.

He became a douche really fast.

Here's a condensed sound-bite of the quote that the author tried to make sound controversial. He may have done any number of things worthy of a douche label, and yes, I think he definitely qualifies as one, but this was a hack job of reporting. I'm not sure why this author is trying to make her school's new HC look like a jackass. She must think athletics are too important or something.

Because Penn State has never did anything in the past to make it seem like athletics are too important, amirite?

One of those schools has an athletic department and it's not Vanderbilt. hmmm

And you're wrong. Vanderbilt disbanded their athletic department in 2003 and integrated it with the "Division of Student Life". However, on July 12, 2012, David Williams officially became Athletic Director. This announcement only made official the capacity he had been serving within the Division of Student Life for some time.

As one poster said, Vandy does not even have an athletic dept. The idiot president at Ohio St who was run off recently was the president at Vandy & he made the decision to do away with the AD posiiton and put all the sports under another, regular department head. Whether he was misquoted or not, he's still making an arse out of himself in a lot of other areas.

S...se...seriously, Shirley?

And the only reason Penn State's priority isn't "always football" the way it used to be is because they got kicked hard in the nads for covering up child rape in the name of protecting their football program. If it had never come to light, they'd still be all about football.

Here is the video of his appearance. (Check around 11:25)

I don't blame you for trusting your link, but she totally botched his comment. He was saying that Vanderbilt had high academic standards and that was a challenge in football culture of the SEC. Feel free to disagree with that, but he definitely wasn't saying that Vandy was a football factory and it's great to be at a place like Penn State where there's an emphasis on academics.
Well that makes a lot more sense, but if so, then that reporter really did him a mis service.

Franklin is probably the cockiest coach in the country.

I hope he's an epic failure at PSU.

I seriously don't understand the love affair with him.

We took a terrible hit in recruiting when he left. But after seeing his true nature, perhaps his departure has created more pluses than minuses.

Many Gators I know wanted to hire Franklin if Boom was fired. There's no way in hell I'd want him now.

What a dirtbag. He'll fit in at PSU. Those pompous asses wore "winning the right way" shirts when we played up there. Few months later the pedo-rape story broke.
