How is this years team more talented than the team that beat Bama with JFF? Whole line got drafted, Mike Evans and that white WR were damn near unstoppable, and ofc you had Johnny

I appreciate you pointing out the bias with how the paper treats different programs. It's telling.
And it's obvious why. The author of both articles? A Texas Ex of course:

it tells us that the admin in the early 2000s was a bunch of dumb bastards for nuking the journalism program.
you want people to write nice things about your school?
then dont kill the god damn career track at your school that will lead to that.

Good question. The answer is I used actual data, which is a foreign concept here I know.
I took our rankings from all our recruiting classes and created a five year running average (aka a full roster). When this is graphed out, it is clear that the 2016 A&M team is the most talented team we have fielded since recruiting classes started being ranked:
As you can see the 2012 team barely had top 20 talent on average, while the 2016 team has top 11 talent on average.

Alabama will be defending its national championship. LSU, with coach Les Miles back in the saddle and Leonard Fournette running the football, should be a handful. Ole Miss has unfinished business. Arkansas, Auburn and Mississippi State won’t be pushovers.
Same old, same old.

How is this years team more talented than the team that beat Bama with JFF? Whole line got drafted
1. The whole line did not get drafted. Starting Center Patrick Lewis (now starting Center for the Seahawks) did not get drafted. The remaining line had 3 first round picks (Joeckel, Matthews, Ogbuehi) and one 5th round pick (Harrison)
2. Going position by position:
Quarterback: Manziel (2012), Knight (2016)
Running Back: Malena/Michael/Williams (2012), Ford/White/Bussey (2016)
Wide Receiver: Evans/Nwachukwu/Swope/McNeal (2012), Reynolds/Kirk/Noil/Seals-Jones (2016)
Offensive Line: Joeckel/Harrison/Lewis/Ogbuehi/Matthews (2012), Gennesy/Sutherland/McCoy/Eluemunor/Martin (2016)
Defensive Line: Moore/Nealy/Ennis/Obioha (2012), Garrett/Mack/Henderson/Hall (2016)
Linebacker: Porter/Stewart/Jenkins (2012), Alaka/Moore/Washington (2016) - Push
Cornerback: Harris/Harris (2012), Willis/Harvey (2016)
Safety: Terrell/Matthews (2012), Watts/Evans/Wilson (2016)
Punter: Epperson (2012)/Mann (2016) - Push
Kicker: Bertolet (2012)/LaCamera (2016) - Push
2016 is more talented in 5 position groups, 2012 in 2.

Does that average take into account players that are no longer on the roster?

The delta is still not enough to drop it below his data point.

I'm not happy about where our program is at, but if you only read articles like this one and the comments from posters on here you would assume we are going 3-9 or 4-8 every year

Nope, and it doesn't take into account the once highly recruited transfer players added to our roster that don't count in the rankings either.
That graph is purely based on recruiting rankings, which I think is solid enough data for my claim.

Still not sure how they lost both Allen and Murray

Sure.
I was just wondering how much time you spent on it.

Current Cal offensive coordinator is the reason.

TIL the media expects us to win 10+ games a year and 8 wins is in shambles.

Fair enough. It was a little more time than I am letting on. I also graphed the classes (so not a running average) of the Big 6 programs in our division as a comparison point:
Looking at that you can see just how much of a miracle our 2012 season was.

So a guy that was fired is the reason? It seems like if sumlin was smart he could of at least kept one of them
His background being offense it seems like he talked them off the ledge

What service did you use to chart that?
ETA: Recruiting service. LSU was 6th and AU 8th in the composite in 2015, is why I'm curious.
