Now entering Year 5 of its SEC membership, A&M is recovering from an awful 2015 campaign that saw it go 3-5 after a 5-0 start followed by disgruntled quarterbacks Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray transferring. Sumlin’s crew is now depending on Oklahoma graduate transfer Trevor Knight, who couldn’t hold his job with the Sooners, to keep the train on the track long enough to help what should be a stout Aggies defense.

In the wake of the latest A&M controversy stemming from wide receiver coach Aaron Moorehead’s regrettable tweets after 5-star quarterback Tate Martell decommitted last week, the Aggies continue to generate all the wrong kind of headlines.
...
Since Sumlin’s debut season, which conveniently was also Manziel’s magical first season in 2012 when A&M went 11-2 and the sky seemed the limit, the Aggies have won nine, eight and eight games.

That’s certainly nothing to sneeze at, but since winning six SEC games in 2012, A&M has won 11 over the past three seasons and failed to top .500 in any of them.

While Aggies don’t seem to be lamenting for the old days in the Big 12, 2016 certainly seems like a daunting challenge in the SEC West division after everything that’s gone down in College Station. Alabama will be defending its national championship. LSU, with coach Les Miles back in the saddle and Leonard Fournette running the football, should be a handful. Ole Miss has unfinished business. Arkansas, Auburn and Mississippi State won’t be pushovers.

All Aggie, all the time.

I love how everyone conveniently forgets that pretty much all of sports media was predicting A&M to go on a long string of under .500 regular seasons (including OOC play) and last place finishes in the West when they joined the SEC.

Their record at home vs. ranked teams is even more comical.

8 wins a year does not mean you're in shambles.

Aka a winning record.

Also the team we will field this year will be our most talented team in decades, and we are in the middle of a first round draft pick streak.

Exactly. Meanwhile in comparison here is what the same newspaper has to say about Texas's losing season last year:

quote:

The Longhorns coach, now entering critical Year 3, is pretty proud of the 2016 recruiting class he just signed, coming on the heels of a 2015 class that showed some promise on the field last season.

So:

8 win season in SEC - shambles

5 win season in Big 12 - promising

It is the definition of bias, which is why it found its way here.

Your team with a returning Heisman winner and 3 first rounders went 9-4...4-4 in the SEC..

That's because they were less talented on defense

Defense wins championships, right?

4 players aren't a team. This isn't basketball.

I appreciate you pointing out the bias with how the paper treats different programs. It's telling.
