That's my point, he wasn't secure in his job. Doing that easily could have been the straw that got him cut.
I think the exact opposite. Kelly had some idiot players try to paint him with the racist brush in Philly (even though those claims were ridiculous), and Kaep knew Kelly was vulnerable publicly on that front. I think he cynically used this stance almost daring Kelly to cut him. Kaep knew it would play well in a liberal hotbed like SF and that the national media (ESPN) would control the narrative. He's been correct on all points.
