You wouldn’t necessarily think it from watching him play football but he was a really good athlete. Complete stud of a basketball player.

One of my buddies was in the class when Ryan walked in and said “who’s got a scantron for Ryan Mallett” after he forgot one on test day.

RIP to one of the best QBs to put on the Arkansas uniform.

Another is he was 6’7 and for a hookup college chick was banging a 4’11” cheerleader I knew.

He was the man on campus. Brought Arkansas one of their best years ever since they joined the SEC

Oh, I'm familiar with him. I was at LSU when he played. He was incredibly frustrating to watch as an opposing fan.

I always liked him. He was a lot of fun to watch! Tragic news.

I never felt like he got a fair shake in the pros.

That's awful news to hear.

He was a great SEC quarterback.

Rest in peace, sir.

Matt Jones to Darren McFadden to Ryan Mallett. A 10 year string of tier 1 Arkansas sports legends on campus. Makes me sad to think of the program now.

Had my first scare from a rip tide last year. Could have easily taken my and my 2 boys. I fear them big time now.

It wasn’t a knock or troll, it was an acknowledgment that he is free and hopefully can rest in peace.

Not everything is a gig.

I'm sure that's what you say every time one of your close relatives die, huh.

It happened here in Destin. We had 3 drownings over the weekend. Double red flag means you can't get in the water and red flag means you shouldn't get in the water. The tourist still do though.

My first scare came a few months ago. Got held up in the undertow and couldnt move. Started screaming for help and not a damn person heard. Took me 15 minutes to gather the strength to take two steps. Scary shite.

Update: We have confirmation of next of kin notification. The victim is identified as 35-year old Ryan Mallett of Arkansas. We send our heartfelt sympathies to his family, friends, and loved ones in his tragic passing.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office is investigating an apparent drowning that claimed the life of a tourist in the Gulf of Mexico this afternoon.
First responders were called to the beach behind 775 Gulf Shore Drive in Destin around 2:12 p.m.
A group of people in the water near the second sandbar had reportedly been struggling to make their way back to shore.
One of the individuals, an adult male, went under and lifeguards say he was not breathing when pulled out.
Lifesaving measures were immediately undertaken but the man was pronounced deceased at the Destin Emergency Room.
We do not have confirmation at this time of next of kin notification.

One of the best college games I ever attended was the 2010 State vs Arkansas game when Mallett was QB. Arkansas was ranked 13 while State was ranked 22. Game went to double OT with Mallett and the Hogs pulling out a 38-31 win. RIP
