I still think that's a small price to pay for giving recruits a chance to make as informed of a decision as possible.

Do two+ months really make that big of a difference?

Only things kids are missing at that point is in-homes.

I just think the kid that signs early is going to be the type to not go back on his commitment. He is the lifelong fan of the school he's signing with, or the kid that commits a year early.

Ideally, that's how it would work, and it would be great.

I seriously doubt it works that cleanly though

Think about UGA's defensive staff at the start of December vs. the defensive staff in the beginning of February.

Come on man. I've seen it happen before. A kid will flat out tell schools no and they'll still come around all the time and call/text 24/7. You can tell school A you're not interested because you're going to school B but they'll just keep calling. Especially for the the high level recruits.

Seriously?

Coaches know when a kid shuts it down (and as was said, they don't want to waste their time).

All a kid has to say is "leave me alone or I'll make it public that you harrass my family". Call the coach a pervert or child molester.
Getting a staff to stop recruiting you is easier than you think.
Coaches are smart. They know if/when they have chance.

Yes, seriously. You guys are acting like all coaches are complete gentlemen and will stop talking to a kid once he verbals to a school I've personally seen it happen a few times.

Have you guys not read articles about kids saying schools are still recruiting them despite the fact that they've shut it down. Hell, look at Preston Williams. He's committed to UT but that's not stopping UGA coaches from recruiting him just as hard as if he wasn't committed.

In order for a coach to talk to them, the recruit has to answer the phone. They have caller ID. If a call sneaks through, hang up. If you don't want to talk to other coaches, then don't talk to them. Forget manners. If you ask them to stop calling but they don't listen, then treat them with the same respect they're treating you with.

UGA can only recruit Preston Williams because he is responding to them.

Are you serious?

Preston Williams is still taking visits.

LOL

He's verbally committed to UT and 100% of the crystal ball predictions (247) have him going elsewhere.

Great example. As I said, if a kid wants to shut it down then the coaches will get the picture.

He just visited UGA this past March (been committed to UT since 9/2013).

Shutting it down and taking visits don't go hand in hand.

Maybe not the best example but you guys are acting like this stuff never happens when I've seen it up close and personal. But hey, you guys keep your blinders on and think that coaches just stop all contact after a recruit tells them no thank you.

Check the recruiting sites. You will see guys like Jacob Park commit (June 23rd 2013) and shut it down. And they are never seen or heard from again on those recruiting sites unless they are in camp. Coaches know.

Sony Michel commits April 26th and there is no drama. Nothing that we see from these kids going to Bama or Auburn that bask in the attention. When it shuts down, it goes quiet.
When the kids still pick up the phone or build relationships with the other recruiters, that's when you see the drama.

There is no point to an early signing period as it can only hurt the athlete.

How does it hurt a kid? If the kid knows that's where he wants to go then let him sign.

I'm not talking about drama. I'm talking about kids that have committed but still receive phone calls/texts from coaches and coaches that still stop by the school. I've seen it, but mostly from highly ranked recruits.

It's the kids who aren't sure but are pressured into signing that it hurts

I listed 2 recruits that shut it down after committing to the Dawgs.

The Dawgs have also picked up a lot of recruits who verbally committed elsewhere (Brendan Douglas, Hunter Atkinson, Sheldon Dawson, etc..). The kids were obviously verbally committed. But they were obviously not fully committed, either.

Sometimes, the recruits don't stick with UGA (Derrick Henry) but that is there prerogative. Sometimes recruits get caught up in a moment (ie. Dawgnight) and don't have all of their options laid out, yet.

I promise you, coaches know when they are wasting their time and when they aren't. Somtimes... the kids are committed but they really don't know (Reuben Foster). And I don't blame coaches for staying on them.

And I promise you I've seen coaches still try and recruit kids after they've shut it down. I'm not saying all coaches do it or even a high number of coaches but I'm personally seen it happen.

Like Preston Williams.
Or Reuben Foster.
Or Derrick Henry.

Obviously, coaches call.
But the control of the call and visit is up to the recruit. The recruit can not accept the call. The recruit can not accept the visit at the high school (I promise you... do that one time. And the coach who traveled will get the picture).

Coaches are going to push. But they aren't dumbfricks. They get the point if the kid wants to make it.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

No. they agreed to it.

Exactly what should happen.
