I remember him as a quitter.

Interested to see how other old school Gator fans feel
As an old Gator fan who saw his first game at Florida Field in 1966 when Spurrier was the QB, I have no problem honoring the player and coach that brought UF to levels of success rarely seen at those times. SOS was a Gator, and will always be a Gator, and the reason the program is where it is today. The reason he left UF was due to entitled fans and the reason he didn't return was poor judgement by the university. You can't talk about Florida football without Steve Spurrier being the center of the conversation.

I remember him as never losing to Kentucky and starting a streak against the Pussycats that has stretched to 3 decades.

Somebody sounds bitter. Could it have anything to do with Spurrier beating that dawg arse 11 out of the 12 years he was the coach at Florida?
That would be a big "Yes" He turned the UG series around and now we own the puppies. 21-26 since 1990.

Why do Kentucky fans presume to offer their opinions in football threads?

For now
What will UG fans have to brag about when we take the series lead in the next decade?
We lead the series since they put face masks on helmets.

We had already been penalized. It was the POS presidents of the SEC schools that stirred it up I think led by Tennessee.
Wasn't led by Tennessee, that's a myth. Johnny Majors was too drunk to give a frick, and even if he did, he wasn't the sort to do that kind of thing. I have no doubt it was supported by Tennessee though.

Practicing for basketball season threads, I guess.

SEC football is built on legendary personalities and lore. Spurrier put Florida football on the map. Well deserving of a field named after him. Well done, Gators!
