Contrary to Gator fans' beliefs, college football did not start in the 1990s and UF was a shitty program until Spurrier put them on the map. Seems appropriate from over here.

Somebody sounds bitter. Could it have anything to do with Spurrier beating that dawg arse 11 out of the 12 years he was the coach at Florida?

Yeah - I would go with "Ole Ball Coach Field" at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium

Spurrier built Florida football into a national power. Without Spurrier, Florida would be like the Mississippi schools in football.

This is really dumb if you're a Bama fan. Bear was quoted in the 70s/80s saying Florida was a sleeping giant that just needed a good coach.

I think it's a great way of honoring him. Florida was nothing before Spurrier. Never had a 10 win season, no SEC Championships, he built that program and Urban Meyer even owes him a big thank you

Yes we did. We won the SEC in 1984.

My bad, I thought Florida won 1 but was taken away for NCAA infractions. I've been corrected

How long until they name the glory hole in the men's room after Tim Tebow?

Note: I have never been to that stadium and have no knowledge of any glory holes, I'm just assuming.

Contrary to Dog fans, Football has been played since the early 1980s, they didn't ban the sport at the College level when Herschel left, though I can see how the Dogs national relevance since then might convince you otherwise.

You are almost correct, the NCAA didn't take it away, the SEC did. After the fact. We had already been penalized. It was the POS presidents of the SEC schools that stirred it up I think led by Tennessee. Which is why we will beat them for perpetuity.

Like I said, football existed before Spurrier, as evidenced by the Dawgs still owning the all time series.

This is random but I hangout with the backup fullback during the Spurrier days from time to time. Marquis Baeszler. One of the most hospitable people I've ever met and he has a Florida "Spirit House" with all sorts of gear. He said during that time as a player you didn't dare look Johnny Vaught in the eye, nor did you Bear Bryant when the Bear was big.

So he's now got his high school and college fields named after him and our practice facility. There was talk of naming our field after him but the powers that be decided on the new practice facility.

Actually, ours was named after both Steve and Jerri.

# 34 Marquis ( I am pretty sure that was his jersey number...was a good player but # 43 from Lakeland was Graham McKeel RIP and he was stout at FB and caught a few passes from Spurrier. # 33 Jack Harper was also a pass catcher deluxe as a RB...he used to own a marina in Boca Grande and started a boat manufacturing business during the hey days of early catamarans in fishing tournaments, I spent a lot of time looking his warehouse and watching boats being built.

Jeezus reel you're like a UF "Screwster". how on earth do you retain all that stuff? I've been a solid gator fan since the early 70's and can't retain even a portion of what you said.
