Executing a one-season turnaround in the tough SEC is like pulling to an inside straight.
From the article. Clearly he doesn't think we should judge him after two seasons which I agree with. He inherited a dumpster fire. He finally has depth. Now he has to show some wins.

Well 3 of those are against top 10 teams.
And one of them is a mediocre team, and all the other teams Tennessee plays are irrelevant.

Feldman isn't the one who predicted Dooley gets fired.
Im sure they have similar sources considering they both worked for ESPN and worked together.

What are you trying to argue? We're debating Maisel's predictions and you throw Feldman's comment about needing 8 wins. How exactly does that mean Maisel isn't predicting 5 losses?

If Tennessee is sitting at 4-4 after losing to Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina, I really do hope Hart just fires him then. It will be much easier to get the idiots in the fan base on board with firing a 4-4 coach than it would be if Tennessee won the next 4 games.
we had to do the same with Bill Stewart(RIP) and it paid off in year one

You said 5 or more losses. It is very possible that if Dooley ends up getting 5 losses mid season, he could be let go. I highly doubt he is predicting a 5-7 season again.

I'd hardly call the program a dumpster fire at this point. It's obviously not at the level of LSU or Labama, but it's not a situation where a quality coach couldn't come in and win the East quickly.

I'm still not sure what you're trying to argue. If he's predicting Dooley's fired, it means he's probably predicting Dooley loses 5 games. Are you trying to say that's the sign of a good coach?

Spurrier averaged 6 losses in his first 5 years, but USCjr fans were patient. I don't know if he is a good coach or not, but Spurrier is one of the greatest of all time and it took him a while to straighten out USCjr.

We're having the same argument on two different boards.

SC fans were patient because their program isn't exactly on the same level as UT's...

I don't think Maisel is predicting Tennessee to suck, but he's mostly saying Dooley never stood a chance. Which I think if you fire him mid-season will be true. But if you give him a whole season, and no quality wins to show for it, then you can't say he didn't have a chance, just not much of one.

Bobby Petrino will have served sufficient 'penance' in the eyes of many by then.

After the South Carolina game, he won't have any more opportunities for quality wins next season.

So if y'all go 9-3 and only lose to UGA/Bama/SC, will that be enough to get Dooley off of the hot seat?
