Why does Alabama think they're special?

This is a bad look for the Gumps.

Entitled whiney arse crybabies.

Believe me when I tell you, the evening games are for optimal viewing. They probably wouldn’t even televise Alabama playing the scrubs y’all practice against if y’all didn’t spend so much time whining about it.

It is what it is.

Special would imply we want more than others. I think the stats laid out make it pretty clear that isn't the case.

Works for me - black out the game and play it at 6 Shula era style!

6am? I don’t think the NMSU of the world would agree to such an early kickoff.

Maybe just scrimmage until SEC play? That’s basically what you’re doing now.

What a load of bullshite! Schedule Alabama's Sept. games at night and they'll put 100,000 asses in the seats.

I am very sorry that Alabama's politicians were stuck in the segregationist past and could not foresee a future when it would be very advantageous to play games at night.

Huey P. Long was a visionary. He got on the night game train long before the rest of the SEC.

Huey didn't have to deal with the clownshow at ESPN, but he did literally make a circus bend to his will and kept the elephants at bay.

LINK

quote:

The Tigers would return home for a game under the lights against SMU, but ticket sales were sluggish. As this was early in the night game experiment, [Athletic Director T.P. Heard] promised large payouts to opposing teams to play in Tiger Stadium at night and now risked losing a lot of money on the game. The culprit? The circus had come to town.

No worries, as Huey came to the rescue. He found an obscure law requiring cattle crossing state lines to be dipped and insisted to Barnum and Bailey that he planned to enforce that law, which meant dipping tigers and elephants. Or the circus could take Saturday night off and he would ignore the law. Barnum and Bailey cancelled the Saturday night circus, and the SMU game would nearly sell out.

I have no idea what dipping an elephant involves (flea bath? dance move?) but it sounds serious.

Here's to you, Huey:
quote:

I bet you'll pull a crowd
Gonna be a long night
It's gonna be all right
On the nightshift

The only logical answer here is Willy's

Did a bit more research and stumbled on to something interesting.

You can see some of the culprit here (top left of the photo, and more everywhere else):

So, 80 years later and you are just now figuring out why LSU has a tradition of playing at night?

That is a much more concise way of making my point.

Like Nick said, "we'll play anyone anywhere." Nobody wants to play us. 5 out of 10 championships have castrated fools.

Almost as big a lie as not being Alabama's coach.

He's really looking dumb.

Wish we would. The SEC wouldn't have a national championship in nearly a decade if it happened.

Maybe at kickoff.

But by the 2nd quarter 75% of the stadium is empty. They don’t want that on TV.

That’s why Nick screams about it every week and why they are incentivizing student attendance.

Does that change the fact that what I said was true? You can’t schedule games you can sleepwalk through and get prime time kickoffs. We have early kickoffs for our shite games too.

The hazards of scheduling high school teams for OOC games. Schedule something interesting and they may get to play in a better time slot.

Play better teams in September or quit whining.

Also, I might add that they dominate the CBS/ESPN schedule the remainder of the year, so to be fair they have to have the early kick offs in September.
