Works for me - black out the game and play it at 6 Shula era style!

In the big TV contract game "inventory" is the key word.

All schools should have an option to have a non-televised night game on their schedule, especially when it comes to OoC games .... but TV dictates more and more and more inventory in order to meet $15 billion dollar multi year contracts and conference specific networks.

SC has been averaging 1 night game a year and most of those over the past couple of decades have been in colder weather, which is just madness IMHO.

Night games also serve to support local economies.

With all of that typed I am the first to admit that winning teams get better slots and prime time Saturday games are limited availability. Figure, among all the outlets, there may be what ... eight prime time slots per Saturday? Ten? Prime Time defined as between 2:30 PM and 7PM start times locally .... or let's say even 8PM locally.

Not counting the NBC-Notre Dame marriage you've got four major conference networks, the four lesser sports networks plus three ESPN networks and ABC and CBS.

Not a lot of room for lesser matchups thus the two week window options.

Bama has become a victim of their own success to some degree because people have grown tired of seeing them pound defenseless OoC opponents. And the SEC almost always offers better matchups among at least one ranked team especially when compared to other conferences with weaker fan bases.

And at the end of the day (well, for some teams) - it’s football.

It’s not for the weak.

If you can’t handle the heat - join the debate team.

Damn, Nick has lost control. First, he couldn't control who they play and now he can't control the time.

Shea was tweeting about how excited the LSU fans are about the early game vs Vandy!

I am looking forward to it!

Strange to see such negativity about it. And not only from the fans, but the administration as well. C’mon man!

Why does Alabama think they're special?

Because Alabama is.

Insults huh? Bama owns this state and SCAR is lil bro in yours. Hell, Bama owns the entire conference with a winning record over everybody in it. Bama goes to the playoffs every year, and does more for the prestige of this conference than anybody else. So if Saban and the Tide want more night games, then you can bet your sweet arse that there will be more night games coming to T-Town. It is Bama's conference and you should feel lucky Bama allows Cocky to play in it.

So you say “screw tradition” when it comes to night games at LSU because you’re too hot but turn around and scream “but it’s tradition” when it comes to the annual Alabama vs Tenn game that all of our schedules have to revolve around? Nice.

Let me get this straight. LSU fan is mocking Bamas complaint about an abnormally higher percentage of early start times in the heat while also crying about not having A/C in the lockerrom @ tejas. Talk about soft .

LSU's former ball-less AD actually grew a pair, short term, when the League's tv contract was up for re-newel
last time. He got a clause in the contract that set up LSU for night games unless tv dictated otherwise for specific games. Claiming it was LSU's tradition to play night games. Our tradition goes back to the late 50's - early 60's when the union - filled chemical plants all along the river demanded that the games be played at night so their employees could see the games.

So LSU has a sacred tradition of night games and is told “stop complaining, there’s nothing to be done” even though conditions are probably worse in Baton Rouge being 5 hours south and much closer to the gulf with higher humidity and now Alabama is citing safety concerns? If they’re able to dictate when they get to play and LSU does not even though it’s a huge deal culturally to LSU to play night games, the SEC scan get fricked.

One is controlled by the SEC/TV networks.

One is controlled by the opponent.

See the difference?
