This. Even if he is a fricking buckeye

Gus Johnson is the best. I wish he could replace Verne.

I like Ben McDonald. I also like Palmer and Pollock. Granted I mostly tune announcers out.

I don't mind if an announcer is biased as long as they don't throw out the same catch phrase every 30 seconds.

I realise they all want you to know who they are insantly and have a catch phrease but I don't need to hear it every play.

Verne needs to be sent to the glue factory... He's an idiot... Gary's dreamjob is being Saban's bottom bitch... Blackledge is really good... Herbstreet is incredible... Nessler is ok... Brando used to be good but his catch phrases really are starting to get old... Gruden is the GOAT... Would love for Gruden and Blackledge to start doing the CBS Saturday games together... Wont happen though.

Tom Hammond (used to do ND on NBC, but he and Mayock did a great job broadcasting a game).

ETA: For color guys: I like Charles Davis, Herbstriet isn't too bad, Blackledge and Nessler are great

The Thursday night crew of Palmer, Pollock, and Fowler is the best ESPN has to offer.

As a whole, ESPN has dropped the ball big time with its announcers. Quit putting just any ole ex-player/coach in the booth and start trying to find the next Jackson, Franklin, or Cosell.

Vern is pretty awful. He's just a big fat tird. Danielson has a lot of knowledge and insight about the game and does a pretty decent job but does tend to favor big name players and teams but who wouldn't. I think the guy on ESPN, blackledge is really good at remaining unbiased all around and he knows the game extremely well.

Herbstreit is okay but lots of them that need replacement.

herbstreit lost his credibility with me when i saw him on bourbon street hanging out with eli manning and sean salisbury prior to that year's draft. granted, i'm not an eli fan and didn't expect him to be as successful in the nfl as he has been, but it really bothers me that i'd been hearing herbstreit and salisbury talk eli up endlessly and then see them all out with their girlfriends/wives a few days later. i don't mind his play-by-play, but i don't trust his player evaluations.

Verne is turrible. HOW DO YOU DO. Makes a ton of mistakes. Great voice, but he tries too hard to be funny.

Gary knows the game and does his homework. Tends to harp on a bang-bang play the entire broadcast, even if the score is 38-0.

Brando is all corndog, all the time. Pointing out his clear bias isn't bitching, it's just what it is.

Matter of fact, outside of Danielson, everyone at CBS can DIAF. Barnhart, Manning, the dude who looks like Little Richard...frick'em.

Herbstreet
Blackledge (w/ Nessler) they are the best duo going in CFB right now.
Danielson
Johnson are all pretty good.

Vern and Brando are terrible.

and its "Watch, i (as in bit), coo.

IMO there is nothing worse than an announcer who is too lazy to do his research before the game.

absolutely NOT

Jesse is mostly awful b/c of his constant condescending second guessing of players and coaches decisions. He often comes off as a self involved bimbo b/c of his need to bring up things he did in relation to the action. Worse yet, he is prone to describing things that aren't actually happening on the field much like Reggie Miller with the NBA or Joe Theismann with the NFL.

Pollock is a meat head moron who is horrible about knowing his facts. The worst from him last year was when he was saying he didn't think Manziel deserved to be the Heisman winner b/c he was headed to the Cotton Bowl. He asked his co-hosts if a player had ever been in a bowl that low in the pecking order (oblivious to the fact that RG3 was the Alamo the year before) and if a Heisman winner had ever played in the Cotton at all (with Lou Holtz who coached Tim Brown in the Cotton sitting right next to him).

Chris Fowler deserves better than those two asshats.

Herbstreit has overcome his big 10 bias and has become a really good analyst and announcer.

Of the former boradcast teams, the best were:

Ron Franklin/Mike Godfried: They are the GOAT, but Ron is a creep

Keith Jackson/Bob Griese: Keith is the Individual GOAT, and Griese was better than Frank Broyles

Tom Hammond/Pat Haden: Tom Hammond does every sport well, and Pat Haden was very even keeled as the Notre Dame announcer, especially given that he was and is again a USC Trojan.

Of the current teams:

Mushmouth/Herbstreet: Mushmouth needs a good pard'na to raise his game. He was bad when he was with Ara at CBS. He improved when Pat Haden was assigned to him. At ABC, he was bad when working with Vermeil. Now that he is with Herbie, he is good, since Herbie is so good.

Nessler/Blackledge: I actually like the Mike Patrick/Blackledge team better, but Nessler is also very good. For a guy raised in B10 country and who went to Penn State, Todd has become a very good SEC announcer.

Dan Hicks/Mike Mayock: Dan Hicks also does well with everything he does, and Mayock brings a more X's and O's analysis to the ND games that you normally only get on NFL broadcasts

Joe Tessitore/Matt Millen: It is a shame that Tessitore is stuck with Millen because Millen is so awful, but Tessitore is so good that he raises the bar for whomever he works with and deserves to be mentioned.
