Should a banner be hanging in your stadium with a spotlight on it? No
I see no problem though with having things or banners in football centers that inform recruits of the programs accomplishments.
The old basketball divisions....teams should be ashamed of hanging banners for those....it didn't even mean you played for a championships like football.

I thought the interesting part of the OP was that the underperformance in the SEC championship game led in part to Fulmer's firing.

I think the significance of division's in a conference setting have diminished (at least for the SEC) when the geographic makeup was thrown out the window.
Nobody cares who wins the East or West the minute after the complete division title is awarded.
The best two teams in the conference should play for the title regardless of which division they fall in period.

Meaningful? Since 1992 sure, it means you were the best team on your side and played for the SEC title. As far as hanging banners and making rings and all that, I don't know...I guess do what you feel like. But it's definitely noteworthy IMO.

Should MLB teams put up red and blue banners on the outfield wall for simply making the playoffs?
It really is a different level of accomplishment each year,, it's funny listening to some of the UGA and Tenn fans(and faux fans as well) talk about how the East was no big deal THIS year.
If the conference issues a trophy for it then it's at least worth putting in the gallery, just like winning bowl games is different, but it still matters.

And how do you propose they do that? You want a fricking SEC poll??? The best way to do it, is divisions, which they have.
Division title means nothing except for bragging rights to other peoples fans and a false hope for the future. Banners and rings for division titles is stupid....and yea, I thought it was stupid when UGA got the rings. Just glad they don't blast it all over the field, arena, buildings, etc. getting rings is less douchy than banners

Idk, I don't really follow baseball so can't answer that. I will say, that winning your division after 162 games probably isn't as noteworthy as winning it in football after only 8 SEC games.

Who said that? If I was missouri (or, any team that wins their division) I'd be proud of it. That's what you play for, to win the SEC. Can't do that unless you win your division.

NCAA rules mandate the divisions which offer a conference championship game have at least two divisions.
A petition lies at the feet of the NCAA asking that this particular rule be waived by no less than a major conference chairman.
I'm not alone in seeing this division thing as an anachronism....

Tennessee recently put up SEC East champion banners
I had heard that Auburn does as well; though honestly, I cannot confirm or deny that. I've only heard it.

How would that have worked last year? Alabama, Auburn and Mizzou all finished with 1 loss. Mizzou did not play Alabama or Auburn during the regular season.
In 2011, Alabama and Georgia had 1 loss each, but UGA had some non-conference losses. Imagine if Alabama had beaten LSU in the SECCG that year, and both teams had ended up in the BCS title game?
In 2012, Alabama, UGA and Florida all had 1 loss in SEC play. Alabama did not play UF or UGA during the regular season.
I'm not saying I disagree with your sentiment, but I'm not sure that the inner workings of your proposed scenario are going to work out that well.

No and neither should anybody else. It's just the first loser in the SEC.

This is similar to the Cardinals having a ring ceremony for winning the NL imo. Embarrassing
Are you serious? Losing the World Series and then celebrating a great season is 'embarrassing'?
Bud,as a UT fan you then need to prepare yourself for a lifetime of embarrassement, then. If its 'titles' or bust,Holly Warwick will be your hero.

As for wanting a rule change to the NCAA that allows a "non divisional" playoff,, hmmm I wonder what conference would be requesting that?
Just more of Bevo wanting to change the rules to suit themselves better, we don't really need to pay attention to the new big east of college football.

It should be recognized, but not celebrated. Just because you lost in Atlanta doesn't mean it wasn't a memorable season.
Now, co-division titles should never have a place on any campus, IMO. And UGA might be an offender of this. I have no clue. It might just be for recruiting purposes, but it's still shitty nonetheless.

I don't think we are, damn sure not to the extent ole miss is.
We, technically, split the east a few years in the 90s but I don't even think it's mentioned in our media guide. IMO, if you didn't play in atlanta you didn't win your division.

I have seen Tennessee win multiple titles in football and a basketball title. Don't follow other college sports.

As long as you don't count years in which you didn't make Atlanta.
