Yet we had a 24-16 lead with under 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter

Yet we tied the game up and looked to be headed into OT or would've the won the game the way the offense was moving the ball in the 2nd half

Yet bama matches down the field and scores in 50 seconds

Now I get what your saying sbout the QB struggling but that doesn't dispell the trend of last minute touchdown drives give up.

Another game that was almost another disaster was North Carolina 2010.

We won, but man I was about to lose my mind.

The third and Chavis is real but it won't matter to A&M...they have had such a crappy defense for so long that Chavis will be a huge upgrade for most of the game and then when they give up that final 2 minute drive for the loss they will think, "well, our defense always sucks"

The problem with posting those games as examples is that we know how to fricking read.

quote:

Bama 2012
- they march down the field to win the game

Alabama's 3rd downs 1-9.
Time of Possession was 39:15 to 20:45 in LSU's favor.
So much for that TOP argument.

quote:

Clemson 2012
- they march down the field to win the game
- including converting 4th and 16

LSU had NINE 3-and-Outs on Offense. NINE!!!!

quote:

Georgia 2013
-they march down the field to win the game

UGA was 4-11 on 3rd down.
This game was a shootout upon which LSU came up on the losing end.

LSU was down 44 to 41 with the ball with 2:24 minutes left and only moved the ball 11 yeards before giving the ball back to UGA to run out the clock.

quote:

Ole Miss 2013
-they march down the field to win the game
- allowed Bo Wallace to run for a first down on 3rd and 10

LSU's D held Ole Miss to 3 points in the 4th Quarter. The difference in the game was LSU's inability to score a single point in the first half while Ole Miss scored 10.

quote:

Bama 2014
- they march down the field to win the game

Held Bama to 13 points in regulation.
Zero points in the second half until the last 0:02. The #17 offense was held to 315 total yards when their average is 485.4 per game. The #13 scoring offense Bama was held to 13 points in regulation. Their average is 36.9 points per game.

quote:

Notre dame 2014
- they march down the field to win the game

Chavis was pretty much gone by then, but whatever. Let's pretend he was still the DC.

LSU held ND to 3 points in the 4th Quarter. That's enough to win. On the flip side, LSU had a field goal BLOCKED in the 4th.
They failed to do anything else against a VERY average ND defense. The game was there. They just kicked a field goal when LSU's offense could do jack shite.

You want to complain about Chavis' prevent defense. Fine. Call him Prevent Chavis or some shite. The 3rd down thing is not a factor.

The off man & zone coverages by the outside corners at key moments will drive them nuts. They really don't have a clue. Chavis has a terrible habit of going completely away from what is working because he gets nervous at crunch time. After all these years at Tennessee & LSU you would have thought he learned his lesson but nope. Also the Mustang package will get gashed with long runs by downhill, power run games when the opposition guesses right.

THIS is something I can believe. Prevent defense will "prevent" you from winning. RC Slocum did that so many times I thought I was going to shite somebody else's pants. That is frustrating and would drive me crazy too.

In every one of those situations, we were clinging to a slim lead with a distinct inability to move the football and score consistently. Most of us believe that to be the difference. It may not be true. We may go mad like we did with Slocum. It's better than giving up 700 yards per game in a shootout with no ability to even slow the other team down.

How many touchdowns were scored in less than 5 minutes left.

I don't see how this data isn't very telling. LSU's offense has sucked, they don't score in the 4h quarter, they can't expect Chavis to shut out opponents doesn't mean they can go 3 and out in to perpetuity once there are only 15 minutes left in the game.

O well. This'll be a fun season. Chavis vs Steele will be hilarious. I'm so glad I don't have the Harris/Jennings debacle to put all the pressure on my defense though.

his 3rd down % for a game by itself doesn't really mean anything. When there's a critical drive late in the game and up til then your D has been stout and then all the sudden you give up a 3rd and 12, you'll know

It's just a warning. Chavis has a habit of blowing games that his teams should win because of this. The most frustrating part is watching the corners play so far off the receivers & watching the opposing offense dink & dunk using the sidelines all the way down the field. It's a hopeless feeling watching that shite unfold.

Can someone get some actual data behind this? And not like... The defense had to hold a one score lead the entire 4th quarter because the offense sucked data. LSU's defense came through in the clutch plenty last season. I remember two drives they got interceptions on when the opposing offense was driving for the final time just last season. And that's just off the top of my head.

^^^^^^THIS shite RIGHT HERE^^^^^^^

He can call 58 minutes of a great game then he changes all of a sudden with an off man coverage strategy instead of continuing to attack.
