Honestly, pre-Saban era my hatred was directed more toward Auburn, but I never really liked Bama either. Before Saban the LSU Bama series had less luster with regards to it's importance. I think alot of LSU fans respect Bama more than they hate them, based on the fact that the winner of that game the last few years usually had a chance to play in Atlanta. The mulligan really put people over the edge though.

I guess my question is when did LSU fans start hating Bama and why?
I didn't hate them before Saban. In fact, if LSU wasn't playing Bama I always pulled for Bama. But the internet has exposed many of the fans to be arrogant pricks. And my interaction with some at games in recent years has reinforced that. It seems to be the younger fans primarily though. Which is funny because they act like they contributed to Bamas long term success.
Saban going there didn't help.
Despite all of that I still pull for them in the bowls.

Or is there some other factor involved like our greatest and our recognition of said greatness.
before saban you had 2 damn good coaches; the bear and stallings. so your greatness, like other teams greatness happens under great coaches. the bear is the single one difference in your history and other schools like lsu and ga. before saban of course. and yes, i have hated you since i've been a kid and loved to beat y'all after the bear left. by the way, since the bear left, LSU and bama have split their games. in other words, since bear bryant left, LSU is every bit as good as you are.
