Auburn has had top 10 recruiting classes the last 4 years. He had some great talent to work with. And he was a few plays away from losing 3-4 games this season.

Coincidentally Texas A&M is a few plays from being 10-2 this season, but instead they are a lowly 8-4 bottom feeder.

If you're asking if what he did was take a talentless team in utter disrepair, rebuild it in the offseason and then go on to a magical season with a title game ahead then the answer is no.

The players, the system, damn near everything but the coach was in place at Auburn for Gus to make Auburn a winning team this year. Where he excelled is in taking them to 12-1 when Auburn could've easily been an 10-2, 9-3, or 8-4 team instead.

When he arrived Auburn definitely had the talent for 10-2 so where I see Gus excelling the most is in giving them 2 more wins with only 1 loss. That is a good coach. Any coach who accounts for 1 or more extra wins that the talent alone wouldn't account for is a good one. And Gus is responsible for those extra wins.

Last season, Chizik actually minused out the talent under him and the blame for the 3-9 (0-8 SEC) record is squarely on him rather than the players.

No, it's really easy to get players who went 0-8 last year to believe they're actually a national championship caliber team. You just give an enthusiastic pep talk and voila, back on track.

Not the QB and not the system. He only got his QB a few weeks before the first game.
The entire staff was replaced and the team ran a different defense and offense from 2012.

Obviously he had the talent to go at least 12-1, but no one was saying that this past summer. Hell, AU fans were being mocked for predicting 8 wins.

Anyway, to say Gus was only worth 2 wins seams like selling him a good bit short.

People are forgetting Auburn was 3 plays away from 8-4. Someone needs to find out who Gus sold his soul to, to have this MIRACULOUS LUCK.

Those top 10 recruiting classes are so overblown. There was so much attrition and flat out busts in those classes it's not even funny.

It's also stupid and incorrect. Auburn still wouldn't have lost the Iron Bowl, won the MSU game on a GW but uneventful drive, and beat TAMU straight up. Only "miracle" was UGA.

But, people are dumb.

People are forgetting that: 1) the Chris Davis return was just as much strategy as luck; and 2) had he not returned it for a touchdown the game was going into overtime.

The last play of the Georgia game? Sure, absolute luck. But not the rest of them.
