This is true, but state is replacing an awful lot of experienced, and talented, upperclassmen. They will struggle next year IMO.

We return all of our biggest playmakers.

Although Mullen called really conservative game plans against Bama and Ole Miss, he's one of the better coaches in the league. People forget what a shitshow MSU was in Sherrill's final years and under Croom.

Only on the O-Line, where we will replace with guys who are 2-4 years in the system already. It always hurts to lose experience, but it helps when you are replacing it with superior talent, which is what will happen. If the guys who are projected to start win the spots, we are going to gain about 20 pounds per position of the 3 OL we replace

What about your front 7? Aren't they mostly seniors and Bednardrick, who I assumes will declare early?

Our DL is deep as any in the SEC. We lose B-Mac and Wells which hurts, but return both Browns. Backfield, we return Redmond who has the potential to be one of the best DB's in the SEC.

How is this true, Ole Miss just beat MSU's best team ever.

You're an idiot

just so happened to be one of Ole Miss' best season ever as well, and State still won more games than Ole Miss did. Ole Miss may feel confident in beating State with Mullen, but he certainly presents big competition for recruits in state, and Ole Miss would be foolish to brush that off as no big deal.

So you expect little to no dropoff despite losing 3/5 OL and 4/7 in the defensive front? You're starting to sound like us LSU fans now.

This guy has resorted to celebrating the death of Chucky Mullins and LaQuon Treadwell's injury since the Egg Bowl and is delusional enough to say our asses are chapped?

Tasteless comments from a trashy individual.

Where did I say we wouldn't experience a drop off?

You never did. The way you're talking about MSU's depth makes it seem like you expect to just plug and play for attrition.

That doesn't matter. Ole Miss fans don't want the competition at all. They want Mullen gone and State to make a bad hire and go back to having 3-9 teams. It is hilarious.

well no fricking shite. We also hope Miles leaves LSU and you guys make a shitty hire.

You finally cracked the case....fans of schools want their opponents to be shittier so it'll be easier for their team to win. Ground-frick-breaking conclusion you came up with.....

If I had my way....Alabama would fire Saban and hire Hebob from the gas station just down the street.

I just don't think we'll "fall back to mediocrity" like the Rant is hoping for.

Mullins is averaging 8 wins a season at state. It's not unreasonable to assume that continues. Especially with the way the West schools are recruiting as a whole.

This is their issue

Their OL this year isnt talented. They have a decent coach, they play hard and they have the Dak & Rob combo that makes any OL look good. When Masoli was our QB we were 3rd in rushing and gave up the fewest amount of sacks. Chris Lowe then predicted that the following OL would be the best in the country because we didnt lose a single starter off an OL that statistically was better than most. The following year we went 2-12 and had by far the worst OL in the conference. Having a running QB and strong rushing duo can make an OL look better than it is. They will have serious problems if they keep recruiting like this OL wise once Dak is gone.

But back to your post...

State fans will believe than Ryan Brown will develop into the next Preston Smith and why would you doubt them? While they lose Preston, I think their problem is in the interior. They have 3 sec quality DT's and thats it. Besides the fact they will be deat by the fourth quarter, especially since two of the three are Chris Jones and Nick James, but if any of them get hurt it could get bad defensively. They are replacing one of the best MLB in the country the best way most can, with a 4* RS Junior with plenty of experience. Will he be as good? No, but what can you do.

Their weapons on offense get much more dangerous, they will have wonderful corners, but once again weak safties. Their DT's will decide their season.

3/5 OL

LT Clausell 2*
Replaced by RT Senior 3* just as much experience

C Day 2/3*
Replaced by Clayborne 3* who has 3 years experience

LG Beckwith NR Walk-on
Replaced by 4* Thomas or 3/4* Desper, each having 2+ years experience

I'd say that the talent is getting better, slightly less experience

quote:

4/7 in the defensive front

DT Eulls 4*
Replaced by 5* Chris Jones

DT Jones 3/4*
Replaced by 4* Nick James who is better. 5* Quay Evans to walk on team after being removed for 1 year.

DE Smith 3*
Replaced by 3/4* JUCO players

MLB McKinney 2*
Replaced by 4* Richie Brown

OLB Wells 4*
Replaced by 4* Gerri Green

I'd say overall we are getting better. Experience will be the determining factor.

You have to realize, 8 wins a season isn't exactly "mediocrity" to MSU at the current moment. A few more 9-10 win consecutive seasons...and then that changes.

and yes....the same applies to Ole Miss.

That's a pretty good assessment.

DT is a question mark but I think we have the players to fill the gaps.

DE will be fine. Not only will Ryan Brown be back, we have Jonathan Calvin and Will Coleman there.

LB will be more than fine. Sure you can't replace a freak like McKinney, but with Brown stepping in it's as close as you can get.

S is what will decide our season. Bryant and Peters are promising in that regard, albeit it may take them a couple years. Hopefully it won't take Peters as long.

People assume this is easy. Sometimes it is...and sometimes, it isn't.

This should be easy though. Beckwith got abused.

btw there's a classic "but StarZZZ don't matter" narrative I could run with....but i'm too lazy to do that right now.

I think the MSU team next year will be a pretty fun team to watch. Probably a lot of high scoring games. End up with 8 wins or so.
