He's done more in his short time than all of 0le Miss' coaches have done in the last 70 years.

I'll allow it.

At least the UMass game was in Gillette Stadium

So? The attendance was 13,074

MSU doesn't have some huge fanbase in Boston or New England. So what's the point in traveling halfway across the country to play a school that's only been FBS for 5 years to play in a mostly empty pro stadium? Make them come to Starkville and at least make money from ticket sales.

Between travel costs, paying UMASS to play, and the embarrassing lack of ticket sales I would think that MSU lost money to get embarrassed and nearly lose to UMASS.

The area isn't a recruiting hotbed and the game wasn't on national TV. So again, what was the advantage?

Just look at this crowd. It isn't cool, it's embarrassing:

UAB's football program went on a 2 year hiatus because of crowds larger than that.

Dan Mullen won 5 games in 2016. He is no genius. South Alabama beat State and Mullen started a 150 lb TB until he got hurt and was forced to play the back-up

Mullen has been State's coach for 8 years- and has won 6 or less regular season games in 4 of those.

Baw, logic like that ain't accepted 'round these parts. You ain't pumping sunshine right, kid.

They've also come very close to losing to UAB and Troy in the past. I'd say he has trouble with mid-major Alabama schools but really it's all mid-majors

Do you ever post anything without cherry picking to make you feel superior? Our last 2 games vs Troy were 46-17 and 62-7 etc etc.

Anyone can cherry pick. Let's talk about some of your games. How about that OT game Aubie has vs non 1A Jacksonville State? But then seeing Idaho score 34 on you or non 1A Furman score 31 on you etc. You barely beat non-1A Appalachian State. You like cherry picking? That's easy to do.

Wow. I really struck a chord with you, huh?

You picked a couple games that were never close, and a couple you had to go back to the 90s to find. The 90s! I got you so made you did a research paper on Auburn football. That's amazing. I thank you.

You completely missed the whole point of my post btw. The point was to point out sheer frequency that Mississippi state struggles with lesser programs. You completely made my point by having to search back to the 90s to find enough games for AU just to match the total of embarrassing games MSU had in 2016 alone. You can go back 20 years and cherry pick like that for any program. Even Bama and LSU will have embarrassing games and unlike Auburn even embarrassing losses. Difference with Mississippi state is that you guys struggle with these opponents EVERY single year.

Buy hey, you want to go back over a decade, I might as well bring up everybody's favorite. 2004 Maine Black Bears. (That's right, MAINE) Mississippi State, a supposed SEC team, lost at home to FCS Maine who finished the season 5-6. Not even an FCS program like Jacksonville State who made the National Championship, but one who couldn't even finish .500 in FCS walked into and SEC stadium and won. Wow

We had to schedule UMass because La Tech backed out of their game with us in the year prior to the game.

Speaking of the 1990s, State went 5/5 against Auburn in that decade.

How about that Utah St. game at Auburn several years ago, where they literally beat themselves in the last minute, after dominating the line of scrimmage all day. Auburn also went to OT with La. Monroe and Jacksonville St. in recent years, so your point is moot.

Cherry picking is kinda fun I see.

You still don't get it. You don't have to cherry pick and go back several years to find further this shut with State. It's every year with yall and often multiple times a year

Saban has ran off so many good coaches in the SEC. State, for the most part, has the most realistic expectations for their program which is why they've kept Mullen around for so long despite his abysmal record against the upper tier of the SEC.

This past season Nick Fitzgerald was MSU's "power" back. No slight to him, he ran very well at times. I have wondered why Mullen hasn't been rotating guys until he finds the one that most resembles Josh Robinson and just stick with that guy.

I get that you can't just will talent like that into existence, but having to contend with him and Dak both as running threats was nightmarish for defenses, and I would tend to think with a guy like NF he'd try to find a similarly complimentary running back.

Just look at the total number of running plays from 14 and compare that with last year. Then subtract NF's runs, and y'all hardly even tried to run with an actual running back.*

*Don't have the numbers in front of me but have seen them and they're consistent with my assessment.

Not disagreeing, but it's worth noting that if Jeremy Foley didn't cost Mullen a job at a school with more prestige/tradition, it wasn't for lack of effort. He was badmouthing Mullen to other ADs (and anyone else who would listen) for at least 3 or 4 years before and after Miss State hired him (maybe longer, IDK).

The guy also schedules the easiest out of conference schedule this side of Vanderbilt to try and guarantee that extra win.

I think he's pretty properly rated. People consistently talk about what a good coach he is, and he is. Honestly, I think he sometimes get a bit too much praise and fawning. He's a very solid coach and State has done a great job keeping him around.

What is his best win?
