It's the truth. I don't see why that bothers you.
False accusations of rape are not at all uncommon, and considering the gravity of the offense and the lack of factual information thus far, having a knee-jerk "OMG THAT POOR GIRL! BURN THEM AT THE STAKE!" reaction the instant you read about a simple investigation just makes you look foolish.

Exactly. But also calling the accuser a full blown cum dumpster attention whore makes you look foolish as well. Eventually, we'll know more. Until then, everyone needs to chill.

That's just disgusting. I'm not offended easily, but I feel uncomfortable with the way this thread has turned. There is really nothing funny about sexual assault, whether the accused is guilty or not.

terrible if guilty, equally terrible if a false accusation because they will generally be assumed as guilty. And if it goes to trial they will be followed by it for a long time. I view a false accusation as a rape of their character. Does anyone here think Big Ben didn't rape at least two of those women?

And Eddie, I know there are times when false allegations are made. I once advised a group on a college campus and saw it happen. I knew it was false, it came from hurt feelings when the young lady realized that it was a one-night-stand and he didn't want a repeat performance. It was terrible, and messed up that young man's life.
But the reaction of immediately jumping to the conclusion that they're lying skanks who asked for it is what keeps the reporting of rape at about 10% nationwide. When they are victimized again by public speculation, many women feel it just isn't worth it to go to the police.

I would add that FBI statistics show that at least 25% of all women in the US will be sexually assaulted in her lifetime, many before they get out of college, and most by someone they know. Nowhere near that many are reported. Rapists should have the book thrown at them.
And women who falsely accuse should be charged criminally if that can be proven.

It is by some, especially when it comes to athletes. Becoming less that way though, I believe. I haven't looked at the statistics since I volunteered with sexual assault victims.
