Pettway ran against who was in front of him. And dominated every single time

61 yards against LSU and 17 against Alabama, or the two decent defenses he faced

If you remove Alabama due to injury and only include and LSU (#8), Texas A&M (#66), Oklahoma (#68)....while healthy, against Top 70 Rush Defenses, Pettway went :

61 carries, 285 yards, 4.67 YPC, 1 TD

His biggest numbers vs P5 teams were against (Yard Per Rush Defense Rankings)
Vanderbilt (#71)
Mississippi St (#80)
Ole Miss (#120)
Arkansas (#126)

D/N/P vs #25 Clemson
D/N/P vs #41 Georgia
Injured vs #1 Alabama (12 carries, 17 yards, 1.4 YPC)

Yeah Pettway never really struck me as an elite talent at all.

I'm obviously a homer and think Guice is the best in the country.
But it didn't take many plays to see that Scarborough is a very special RB.

However, it doesn't matter if you can't stay on the field. And I'm not sure he can do that for a full season (or even most of one). Hope he can for his own sake.

With zero threat of a passing attack as well.

I would say Alabama running backs benefitted from having a running threat at quarterback, just like Auburn did in 2010, 2013 and 2014.

Apples to oranges when considering that...

He was hurt against Alabama too, which is why I wouldn't consider holding it against him.

Perhaps they did, but the last month Hurts had receeded into basically a running back playing QB. So his legs were a defensive concern, but there was almost no concern for his arm. The runs Bo had to make through arm tackles vs Washington, Florida and Clemson showed that.

Not to mention that, yes, he did rush for 169 against Miss St but it took him 39 rushes to get there. That's 4.3 YPC

I have a real problem putting Guice at #2. Really, I have a problem putting Guice and BoScar above Pettway. Just think he has done more over a longer sample size than the other two

Some Auburn fans really do think Pettway is an elite talent. I don't see it at all. He may put up numbers, but he's not in the class of Guice and a HEALTHY Bo.

Poor Damien Harris rushes for 1,000 yards and over 7.0 YPC and he's nearly forgotten.

If you were a running back and saw Bert's defense lined up across the way, wouldn't you get a little tight in the drawers?

Massive potential for Snell to breakout this season. He'll have a solid, experienced offensive line, an OC who likes to run the ball, and feature back reps. A lot to be excited about with him.
