That may be the only stat that Shaggybevo will be happy with for the next four or five months.

While I agree with your analysis of the definition and importance of profitability, you are off topic.
Athletic departments and therefore football programs are non-profit entities. Revenue generation is more important than profitability because generally speaking, non-profits are not expected to show profitability per se. Although, a balance sheet that shows the ability to operate without income for a good period of time is always healthy, profitability is not a priority.

I guess I was completely off topic, because I wasn't talking about athelitic programs

Still doesn't matter because your statement was false. Simple fact, businesses are routinely valued based upon revenue. Is it the only way? No, but it is in a group of the most common ways.

Very, very rarely are businesses valued on revenue. Does it provide scope as to how large the company is? Sure. But it is not a key element in deriving value

Which SEC school has the most congressional medal of honor recipients? There's not much room for argument there.

This is all true and very valid when discussing a business that's primary mission is to deliver a profit to it's owner or stockholders. However, we are discussing college football programs in this thread.
I want my college football program to spend every penny it makes trying to win as many football games as possible. As an alum and booster of LSU, I don't want them showing much, if any profit, as long as they aren't losing money.
The ONLY true value of Big 5 college football program is measured in Championships and Wins. Profit is way, way, way down the list.

Just stop.
Just because this site is overrun with bleeding vaginas doesn't mean you have to be one too.

I don't disputed your claim about an athletic department. But above I said I was referring to a business and the barner disagreed

Jesus. Your entire fan base is incapable of being rational about anything on this board if LSU is remotely involved. The OP posted a list of college football revenue by team and Aggy chimes in on the first page about profits. Then Chavis comes up and now y'all are on congressional medals of honor. What a bunch of fricking dweebs.

The true gold within this thread. The aggie stereotype is backed up daily

As much as I hate to say it, TexasAg13 is definitely right in the discussion of business valuation. Revenues are only are really used in valuation in certain situations mainly to project potential growth. Startups that make a ton of money but have a ton of debt still get valued high even though they don't report profit. In general though, for a typical small business, discounted cashflows are where its at.
Thats all beside the point though. Athletic department profits don't mean shite, but only because its sole purpose is to improve the school and its athletic programs. Every dollar they bring in at LSU, I want them to spend it by either giving it to the school or building/renovating a buncha shite.
