I really thought A&M would make huge benefits from Texas being down and the aggies being in the SEC.

Hard to do when LSU raids Texas of its best players and you still try to play Big 12 football.

Texas Tech

If Tech's D can get it together some, they might surprise some teams. Mahomes is for real.

I've lived in the Houston area for 18 years and I can tell you there aren't many U of H fans even here. Even people I know that went there don't care that much about sports.

Coug High? It's a commuter school. Their fanbase is essentially nonexistent. Texas A&M, Texas, and LSU have Houston in a stranglehold.

I've seen a few TCU fans over the years but not that many. My neighbor's son was a back up kicker on the Rose Bowl champion team so he's a big fan.

TCU has a piss poor fanbase as well. Always have. Always will. DFW is dominated by Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Arkansas, LSU, and Tech. The Uptown Dallas crowd will always support SMU as they view TCU is beneath them and low-rent.

I think Baylor has a pretty good following though. I know a lot of Baylor fans and see their gear quite a bit around here.

Baylor's lucky enough to be located in Waco. Between them and the Branch Davidians, there isn't much there.

Two of the three ranked teams have good coaches. The unranked ones do not

Yeah, the Hogs had this same sort of deal after Petrino left. A talent laden team that people expected to still be a contender the following year. They only won 4 games. Baylor is not going to be nearly as good without Briles. Simple as that.

Very apt analogy.

Petrino's personal genius for playcalling wins his teams games. Period. To some extent, they are just extensions of Petrino out there.

Like Petrino, Briles' teams are made up of guys specifically recruited and trained to fit a specific role in his system. They played under Briles' personal playbook in his personal system.

Briles & Petrino programs are not at all like A&M or a lot of other teams where the HC hires an OC and the OC installs "his" system (which really isn't unique) and calls the plays. Baylor won as big as they did because of Briles' system, his game-planning, and his play-calling via his son. The new HC is not an offensive genius and will be using players who were cogs in one specific system in a different offense. Expect to see a big drop-off.

Everybody I know from Texas is obsessed with rodeo and high school football. None of them give a frick about college football or NFL.

I work with a lot of guys from Texas. We were having a cookout one night and they would not let me watch a wildcard NFL playoff game because the National Finals Rodeo in Vegas was on TV....I was pissed.

I live in dfw so that could be why, but i see tons of tcu fans. Texas-austin seems to have a much smaller fanbase here than i expected.

A&M recruiting has improved in almost every sport.

247 Football (2012-2016): #16, #9, #5, #11, and #18. This year they are currently #14.

Previous to joining the SEC they would flirt in the top 25, but then have some really bad years in the 30's or 40's nationally.

You are not getting my point. LSU could have a top 5 year without a single kid from Texas.
