I think declining attendance is going to be more and more of a problem. Several factors push in that direction:
1. Most games are now available on TV
2. Home TVs and sound systems are fantastic these days
3. The expense of attending keeps rising. College game tickets now cost as much or more than NFL, and the price for parking, concessions, etc is going up as well.
4. Can't drink at most college stadiums (legally)
5. The time commitment of attending. In increasingly busy/overscheduled world this is a big problem.
6. Current students seem like they don't care as much, it will be interesting to see what happens in 20 years when there have been a couple of decades worth of alums who didn't feel like they "had" to go when they were students and it was cheap and easy.

Yes, but is it this kind of weird? I mean, just look at this culture.
Obviously they can't be bothered to go to some silly kickingball game

Point being, LA and Austin don't have sports on their minds the way those other cities do.
This just tells me you know nothing about Austin.

Austin, meh, I don't even like the city that much but there is so much more you can do that's cheaper than going to a collegiate event. The people in the city, not those associated with the university who are paying an arm and a leg to attend plus housing.

Lol I don't care enough to 'make excuses' as you do eloquently put it. I was giving an argument for why people in LA or Austin don't go to games the way other cities do.
Los Angeles's hockey team still has more attendance than Columbus. In fact, the Dodgers AND the Angels are top five in MLB attendance. The Dodgers get more fans in the seats than anyone else. LA has two teams and BOTH have more people attending games than the Cubs or the Red Sox. When the Lakers are winning they are sold out almost every night.
Los Angeles does go to cities the way other cities do. Most times better than most. That happens when have a metric frick ton of people. So the things you are saying are just dumb.

Or LA. Everyone and their mother is either a Laker or Clipper fan

All of those teams you listed are good? And of course the number of people that live there has an affect on it, but all Those people in LA could give two shits about UCLA and USC

These are the times where you should stop replying and say you were hacked. On TD-OB we call it "OldBallCoaching"

What about the people not in the city? This is kind of a stupid conversation because the stadium is not filled with denizens of the college town. People commute from all over the state to go to games, no matter who you are talking about.
You really think Buckeye Stadium is filled with nothing but Columbus residents?
A&M, Auburn, Alabama for example have larger capacity stadiums than the population of the town, for frick's sake. This is not uncommon at all.
The city itself is not an excuse. Why aren't people coming to Austin on the weekend to go to games?

What are you even arguing at this point?

Again that shows me you haven't been to Austin. The Cali people have jacked up the price of anything decent.

Miami has the greatest flux, not even close. FSU has some but not as much as people think. Nole fans are dumbarses but they pretty much keep their dumbarse covered by FSU gear. UF has very few, probably the same as UT would have if they hired a real coach and stopped blowing 4th quarter leads.
Florida fans...well..they're just Florida fans. Bars on Saturdays look like a Hills Have Eyes reunion. It probably doesn't help that I'm from Polk County, but UF fans are freaks.

I've been to Austin and didn't find it that outrageous. I spend my times outdoors so I don't feel the need to spend money when visiting LA either. You spend money if you want to spend money and the last point, do you see the huge difference in demeanor that Austin and Los Angeles have compared to the rest of those places. Both full of heathens. I do think that plays a role in attendance as far fetched as it may seem

I live in Austin and drive to College Station for A&M games. It isn't rocket science.
