I blame Barnhart for not doing any background checking before hiring a basketball coach at Kentucky. Still can't believe he wasn't fired for that mistake.

Oh yeah that is clear.

Hell his demons were obvious at A&M. I remember a story about him still having a Christmas tree up in February while we was here.

You have to understand that he has a special place in our hearts because he made our basketball program relevant back when our football program hit rock bottom. I don't think we would take him back now.

Mitch is not going to lose his job...he is the best AD we have had some time.

He should have lost his job in 2007 after we realized what he had done to our basketball program.

Sorry dude, the good ol boy days are long gone. Mitch has done a great job at the helm...every AD has a couple duds for hires (including Foley at UF).

Billy Gillespie
Rich Brooks (Should not have been hired originally, but did finish well)
Joker Phillips (but I will say it looked OK at the time)

He's the AD at an SEC school. No excuse for bad hire in men's basketball. Luckily the board hired Cal.

You honestly put Rich Brooks down as a bad hire? Dude, I would take the Brooks era back here in a heart beat. Come on man.

Barney hasn't been that bad compared to his predecessors. I'd take him any day over Newton. And yet, the football field is named after that asshat.

Bad fit but millennial snowflakes that are a lot of top ranked players the past 15 years are the reason that few can be Lebron/Kobe/Jordan. You have to love working harder to get better everyday and strive to give your all to get the absolute most out of your talent. Billy did that to people that were willing to work harder than they needed to and push through more pain than they should. Hence bringing a 0-17 basketball team to the NIT in year one, a round of 32
appearance in year 2, and a sweet 16 team in year 3 at a school so desperate for the post season they hadn't been to in 19 years. He made acie law look all word despite being a bad nba player. He made Joseph jones the toughest SOB in the college game (playing through horrible knee injuries every year). He made a unatletic undersized walk on (Chris Walker) into one of the best big defenders/clutch three point shooters in the big 12.

With the right personalities and "broken" inflated egos on a team, the dude can win anywhere he goes. Problem is today's society says if you can score 15+ a game in high school you can't be told to work harder.

At the time he was hired it was a complete disappointment. An aging coach, who wasn't even actively coaching, and all that time wasted chasing Bill Parcells, who was never going to come here.

That was a complete circus and he let many coaches move on to other jobs chasing Parcells.

Like I said, Brooks did finish well, but to think it was a good hire is just odd to me.

Mitch and I have butted heads a few times but he is a better AD than most. I do have issue with him getting most of his hires from his previous stops instead of real coaching searches.

The 3 listed above all came from previous MB interactions and Matthew was in that boat too. I think some others were as well. Not happy he promised Cohen things then did not deliver so Cohen went to State and took them to the CWS Finals.

I do like he is spending across the UK sports and not putting it all into a single sport. Not happy which him going with the pro model for football and shrinking seating to charge more for it. He does seem focused on spending more and more money and seems to overpay for things. If Cliff was still there tho, UK would still be in the sports stone age.

What'd the guy ever do to you? I always liked Gillespie, seemed like a nice guy. Unlike Calamari.

Looks like his current Ranger team is 16-4 (and actually won those four losses on the floor but had to forfeit - no idea why)

Dude can coach the right kids.

Paperwork snafu with one of the players. Nothing to do with recruiting violations, PEDs, exceeding practice limits or anything like that. He should be 20-0 right now. Billy is the man if he has kids willing to work.
