Georgia make a s***-ton of peanuts, that's what goobers are.

Good luck finding those goobers on a jayhawk.
And they take pride in those red socks. Which just pisses our players and fans off even more. I'm kind of happy to leave that rivalry behind, and develop some new ones.

Trust me, they know exactly what it means. This year when we played them at Arrowhead (in Kansas City, Missouri), our intro video aired highlights from our football season. Their intro video showed pictures of John Brown (Yankee terrorist) as well as various jayhawker raids committed on Missouri soil and made references to "winning the war". Frick kU

I never realized so many traditions/mascots in the SEC are civil war related. Like Tigers for LSU, Yellow Hammer for Bama, etc.
Funny how things really haven't changed as far as Southern Pride and the way we feel about the north. It's almost like football was created to channel those feelings for both sides, without the loss of life

on the gopher name for florida:
The term "gopher" refers to the former use of gopher tortoises as a popular food by rural residents of Northwest Florida. In fact, the region was a major exporter of gopher tortoises. Thousands were shipped from Vernon in Washignton County and so many were eaten and shipped away that they almost were eaten into extinction. They are now a protected species.

Maybe, just maybe, Ranters here will see more of our southern roots and not as a bunch of Yankees.
Nahhhhh, ain't happenin'.
I'm with semo here, I live in KCMO, right along the border with them asshats, and I'm so ready to leave that rivalry behind and look to the future, which, in essence, is returning to our past.

Go watch the movie "The Outlaw Josey Wales" or "Ride with the Devil". You will never call us Yankees again.
Some of the Missouri units (Orphan Brigade) that fought for the Confederate Army were some of the best troops and toughest fighters that the South had. They had a very good combat record.

Woah. That's really deep!
Seriously, that needs to die. It's not a fun rivalry, it's hateful and mean. Time for something new.

This really makes me want to add UNC and Virginia Tech.

Many of the "Arkansas Toothpicks" (forged from the finest steel) around the time of the Civil War were prized weapons. Some could almost be categorized as small double-edged swords.

I will say, this thread has been civil and informative. And it's given me a whole new appreciation for my in-born hatred of Kansas. Lots of Mizzou fans in my family, so I always hated them anyway, and then when douchebag Roy Williams screwed LSU basketball and worked with the NCAA to get Lester Earl to lie, my hatred for them elevated. Now I know I've been justified in hating them all this time.

The more you know about kU, the more you hate them. Truth. Cheating, whining bunch of prima-donnas.
They're also fun to laugh at. How can you not laugh at football players who get into a fight with the basketball team and lose?

I'm curious about Gophers for Florida. The ground here in most places seems unsuitable for gopher burrows and I've never seen one here or even heard of them here.
There must be a lot because I see tons of gopher burrows on the trails where I run. Never seen an actual gopher, though.

Ahh, I never knew what the heck "Yellow Hammer" came from. I was about to make fun of it on the intro to my radio show I'm trying to start up. What's the significance of "Yaller Hammer" to Alabama?
As far as the Missouri and Kansas history, I've never been a big American history buff, but this thread makes American history seem pretty cool and interesting. Btw, why is Tennessee the "Hog Drivers"?
