Chavis is a proven commodity, albeit a complete disaster in the 2 minute drill. Steele is unproven at this point while at LSU. Chavis until a full season under Steele.

I don't look too much into what WVU did to his defense. Two hurry up offenses on each sideline will put a ton of pressure on defenses with the limited TOP between series.

I'm tired of having soft DL with zero push, LB's that way 190 lbs soaking wet, and blowing a lead in the final 2 minutes of a close fought game over and over and over. No excuse

Still, with all that said... Chavis has proven he can coach a defense.

Chavis.

LSU was 30th in 3rd down defense.

9th in total defense.

6th in scoring defense.

LSU's offense?

Total offense 77th

3rd down offense 69th

Scoring offense. 73rd.

It's more like "3rd and Cameron"

I know I am not answering your question but I really think both LSU and Ags improve with the moves. With the exact same talent clearly I would go with Chavis but Steele and O are massive upgrades for recruiting so Steele will already start with better players. Also LSU needed some new fire and they will have that now. Chavis will almost definitely improve the Aggie d so the way I see it this is bad for all other sec west teams. Going to be fun to see how it plays out.

I would have gladly traded Chavis for Steele and O.

Orgeron hasn't been a good DC yet.

Not many people were high on Chavis before he came to LSU. I remember people posting then that he was on the verge of being washed up as a DC based on his final Tennessee seasons.

Chavis is no doubt a top 10 DC in the Nation(When Given LSU talent)...While that makes him very respectable as a foe it does not make him impossible to be replaced on a BR Campus with the bodies already in that locker room or heading there soon.

Chavis is notorious for his recruiting efforts. A college position is about more than just knowing X's and O's. It is about sustaining a program...a burden which will now fall on all of JC's Assistant Coaches to make up.

Steele is mostly mocked for 1-2 outings however Bo Pelini, John Chavis, Will Muschamp and other very respected coaches suffered humiliating defeats as well before and after being on a LSU sideline that associated them with being great at their field.

Until shown otherwise I would believe that the same man who gave 2 of those men jobs would be more likely to nail his hire based off previous experiences doing so versus TD banter experts.

Know why Ole Miss had that game winning field goal against LSU in 2013? That was because of "3rd and Chavis".

3rd and 4? Lets give the wide receivers a 10 yard cushion.

Chavis is a great defensive coordinator but he goes full retard on third down sometimes.

We know what the results were with Chief... Steele is an unknown and also Steele with and Orgeron D-line is likewise unknown. I am willing to give it a go. They seem to be recruiting better anyway.

Wrong. It was because Mettenburger threw 3 INT's in 1 half of football.

LSU needed change

Chavis has a better track record and it's not close. His time at LSU had run its course.

Steele & O will be exciting to watch and we KNOW recruiting will be better.
