It's not that easy. You have his buyout. Then you you have to payout the rest of his staffs' contract. Then whoever you get.....which in this case, Ole Miss fans think they can get a top coach or coordinator for whatever reason, you will have to match what you paid Nutt or little less. Plus you then have to pay that new staff. So in the end, it is a good bit more than $6 million.
Depends on who all we keep. I can see us keeping Burns, Brewer, and the Nixs(for recruiting).
And it's not like we're going to be out all of this money at one time. Everything will be paid in payments over time. Nutt isn't getting one 2.something million dollar paycheck per year. He's getting a paycheck just like everyone else in the world.

I think Nutt is given one more year regardless.

No you wouldn't.
Mike Leach has been out of work for a year. We could pay him less than $2.5M a year. Malzhan, Smart, Vernables and other names I'm hearing haven't been head coaches, so we could pay them less than $2.5M a year.

Fire Boone, Markuson, and Decker......
I'd be interested in seeing how we'd do after that.
We're slow and weak and our OLine coach is flat out terrible. If Nutt can get over his relationship with those two coaches, I think he could have us back at a good level next season.
I just don't see that happening though.

Why not worry about beating Auburn?
I'm honestly fairly indifferent and have been since the Georgia game. My mentality is that if we continue to lose, then its more likely Pete will get fired. Nutt is gone for sure (unless he goes undefeated from this point forward ), but Boone is no guarentee

Think again. He is a top name. He aint coming in cheap. He has an agent too you know. Somebody is going to offer him more than the other school.

Agree with this. If your AD is that fricked up (only OM fans would know the answer to this) then he is going to have to go before you can get a good coach. I honestly believe there are some good choices out there that would jump at the chance to come to the SEC and rebuild a struggling program, but a fricked up AD who is under the gun will scare them off.
Completely agreed. If we get beat by Kentucky, he needs to be gone immediately. If we lose to State (god forbid) and he hasn't resigned within 24 hours of the loss, the fans may have to resort to literally chasing him out of town. Nutt can stay for a while since he's not going to do that much harm to the program for the remainder of the year, but Boone certainly will.

I'm hearing Forward Rebels has some really interesting documents about Boone.
Some that'll make OM fans go batshit.
I hope its true.

You do realize that Houston Nutt has like a top-20 salary. We do NOT have to offer that much to our next incoming coach.
Leach is also a TARNISHED name. He'll be somewhere next season (and I guess that will be Kentucky or Ole Miss, if not Arizona) earning probably $1.75M - $2M plus incentives.

If we fire a coach he will most likely bring in his guys to comprise his staff. If not is gone I don't see anyone being retained except for maybe Brewer because of his past record as an assistant and because his ties are to the University more so than Nutt. I still see that as a slim chance though.
About the buyout thing, if Boone resigns/is fired I believe the money will be on whoever the interim AD's desk the next day for Nutt's buyout. This will allow the interim/ new AD to go after a candidate and not restricted by what was payed to Nutt and essentially have what was Nutt's old salary to throw at a "top notch" candidate to bring in.

Pete Boone will not walk away. And he is in the " IN" crowd at Ole Piss. He will be at Ole Piss a long time........This is the last season for Nutt unless he wins the rest of his games.......
Things will get violent if he isn't gone by January. He won't be here this time next year since I guarantee every single fan is going to go out of their way to make Boone's life a living hell while he is still athletic director, especially if we pull the same shite in baseball this year.

some of the shite I'm hearing that FR has on Boone, this will most definitely happen.

A lot of Nutt's guys aren't "his". The Nix brothers don't have any loyalty to him. Gunter doesn't. Burns does to an extent.
Really the guys who are "his" are Decker, Markuson, and Shibest. I actually think our special teams have been great under Nutt, so I'd hate to see Shibest go, but we won't have any choice there.

This is where Nutt screwed up on and where most coaches DON'T frick up.
Nutt didn't keep key assistants from Orgeron's staff who were actually keys to his recruiting. Frank Wilson, Hughs, and Freeze should have been retained. Smart coaches starting a new job will keep those coaches at least for a few seasons to help retain contacts in recruiting.
And I think Burns' resume will allow him to be retained.

I think you are severely underestimating the apathy of the Ole Miss fan base.

Aside from hating Dan Mullen, I've never seen the fanbase so united around a single cause as getting Boone out of here.

Don't get me wrong, I understand this completely. But a new coach coming in wants guys he is comfortable with and that may not be guys who are presently at the school. Also if a new coach comes in a keeps parts of the old staff, if that part of the team doesn't perform well, it is a walking target for the fan base to bitch about. No coach wants to risk their honeymoon time on the previous coach's staff I wouldn't think.

Smart coaches keep a few.
