What my not-very-smart friend is trying to say here is Montgomery is terrible AND full of Bama fans. He is right about Montgomery being awful - the last 30 years has been a pretty steep decline in the quality of that city. Honestly, I'd rather visit Jackson. However, Montgomery is much more of an Auburn town than a Bama town. Not that the predominate fandom has anything to do with Montgomery being shitty, it's just another way that the person I quoted is dumb.

I used to work in Frankfort, like most of my colleagues, I lived in Lexington and commuted every day. It's not totally inaccurate to lump Frankfort and Lexington together.
Also, the best bourbons in the world are made in Frankfort, so there's that.

Frankfort is the fourth smallest state capitol at apx 27K, but is strategically situated between Lexington and Louisville. Not much going on there, just a typical Kentucky small town.

I dunno about Frankfort, that's where the Dixie Mafia is.

Lexington >>>> Baton Rouge
I don't see how anywhere could be worse than Jackson.

Lexington should be the capital of Kentucky. It's in the center of the state and easily accessible by car, plane or train.
Until Louisville bitched and moaned, Lexington was set to be the capital when Kentucky became the 15th state in 1792. Frankfort was a very poor compromise.
It's just 23 miles from Lexington, but it sits in a hole and has no natural beauty or appeal. There's nothing there but the bourbon distilleries.
If Lexington had remained the capital, it would be similar to Columbus, Ohio in size, IMO. Frankfort would just be a little town where fine bourbon is made.

Put Jackson and Montgomery in the Bottom Tier, and I think you may have a winner.

i think i am in the minority but i do not understand the Nashville hype. it is a fun 3-7 day trip but as far as living there i have never felt like that would be somewhere i could stay long term. Would much rather be in Atlanta or Austin.
I have had fun in Tallahassee, Baton Rouge, Little Rock, and Columbia. They are like like the top of the smaller cities

I'd say Oakland, Detroit, parts of Chicago are much worst, but since you called Montgomery "Gump land", you're already an idiot.

I think Nashville is fun place, but all my friends there when they were younger and went out a lot said within 6 months it felt like a big-small town. Saw the same people at the same places every night.
It's a cool place, music scene is great, fun downtown, but I'd rather be in Atlanta. To each his own though. Nashville is definitely a cool place.

Brother lives in Nashville and says pretty much the same thing. Main reason is a lot of people stay away from the tourist attractions, like Broadway.
Bars in east side Nashville are pretty fun and have a lot of good jam/funk bands.

Yea, the best part of Nashville by far is the music scene (and the bars along with it). The alt/folk/country scene that has grown so much there in the last 10-15 years is fantastic.

I've heard the same thing about the big-small town. While definitely bigger than Birmingham, it still has too much of a small town feel to it

It is the biggest shitehole on the OP's list for sure.
Gumpland?
It is 45 minutes from Auburn and the big local TV station's sports director hosted the Auburn football review for 30 years.
Pre-Saban, there were times on a Saturday night that the local media would barely acknowledge that Alabama had played a game.
