That's not at all what I'm doing. Look at where the SEC started, and now look at them.

Roger that. I tend to think even one full bowl season isn't a fair test of where we're at... I think you gotta compare at least a solid 50 games (Idk why I picked 50) worth of in season and OOC play and post season play over a few years. Slap a chart on the numbers and watch as it changes.

I think it's clearly evident we're not as solid as in years past from top to bottom. But the whole picture of all of the "whys" and hows.... and what the future holds is too large a topic for a single thread.

In short, whatever formula shows what sort of trend each team seems to be on individually should sort of point to the future... If nothing else major changes outside of the SEC. EITHER WAY, consider this... If this is what the SEC is like when we're down, then we're as badass as touted and deserving of the bravado and fanfare.

But the best team in the conference (Alabama) struggled with Ole Miss, LSU, and Arkansas.

Not sure about being over rated. Do know about "beat up".

So disregard their season? Now it just comes down bowl games? That's not the point I'm trying to make. Also, WVU was without their starting QB, no?

Whaaaaaa! Someone's picking on me so I'll try to shift it to someone else.

Can we all agree that the SEC is overrated? College football has changed so much in the last 5 years that it is almost like college basketball where the teams with the best coaches will be the best teams. It's not quite there yet, but close. 5 or 10 years ago the HUNH wasn't as prevalent and programs recruited more within their own recruiting base. Also, the SEC was much more committed to football as a conference than any other. Now, with new TV contracts programs across the country are going all in with their football programs like most of the SEC has always been. They are recognizing that you have to supplement your recruiting base with players from the South, and the HUNH is drastically changing the game. It's just different now. The SEC set a bar for others to reach, and they are proceeding to do so. The SEC will always have a talent advantage, but not nearly as much so. Therefore, coaching will play a much bigger part. I also think that the motivation factor for teams playing against the SEC works against SEC teams, as everyone wants to see the bully get beat up. Other conferences' coaches are tired of hearing it ala Bob Stoops, so they show up highly motivated. So, essentially yes, the gap has closed.

I will respectfully disagree with this premise. First, the best teams have always had the best coaches- be it Bud Wilkinson, Bear Bryant, Shug Jordan, etc. Second, 6 years ago Utah throttled Bama and the SEC has been just fine ever since. Lastly, during this current stretch of SEC domination there have always been bad bowl losses, such as LSU vs. Iowa, Bama vs. Okla, or UGA vs. UCF.

Nobody loses more talent every year than the SEC, so there will be years that other conferences can take advantage based on experience alone. But teams should be leery of bowl victories over the SEC and what they truly mean. Both Utah and Oklahoma found out it amounts to pretty much nothing long term.

Hilarious. Because LSU sucks now, the whole SEC is down?

If LSU would've won yesterday, this thread would've never been started.

By the way, until LSU fires that window licking retard you call a coach, you'll continue to fall further behind.

LSU has a bad year, loses to ND and then A&M steals their DC. Suddenly, LSU fans start threads dis-crediting the whole conference to involve everyone else in their misery. "We sucked but none of us were very good this year.."LSU sucks and the conference was over rated even though this years MSU team was better than any Miles LSU team save 2011. Guess the SEC is only worthy of being referred to as the best when LSU is good....right?

A&M only won because WVU played their 2nd string QB who only had a few days to prepare. If Trickett plays, WVU wins easily IMO.

No, not over rated. It is just because lsu sucked it up vs ND, that you're jumping in with the anti sec crowd.

Not at all trying to make jokes about any team. Trying to have a civil discussion. Congrats on Chavis.

This all helps, yes. But the perception is that the SEC is dominant. I'm not seeing that as much as I used to.

I think the conference is as deep as it's ever been, minus Vandy, but the top teams aren't as dominant as the past few years. Alabama has a good team, but they really aren't on the same level this year that they've been for the past 4-5 years. Also, some of the other conferences are closing the gap in terms of coaching and talent; the PAC 12 in particular.

No. Only meaningless bowl games played so far.
