Also it's one thing if he bought this from a store and didn't get it registered/checked, but, it's pretty clear he didn't exactly do that.
Why in the world would you not get a weapon checked you are buying off joe blow?

Is there also a law about carrying un registered firearms between states.
Again, what is an "unregistered firearm" in any southern state?
And no, there is no such law unless it's an SBR

He bought a stolen handgun. It's your responsibility as a buyer to not buy stolen property. I'm not saying he's a hardened criminal, but that's exactly why you get it checked out before handing someone cash.

He is getting away with it because he is a great athlete.

Louisiana first offense possession of stolen property felony i think can get you 7 years. Add in if they are under 21? Wouldn't that be illegal weapon? If they were on their person. Oh and it's a stolen gun not a hammer or something common. Average kid out there would be totally fricked. If these kids get a slap on the wrist it's not normal.

Has it ever been released whether the guns were loaded? I wonder which range in alabama they drove to that will "verify" they were there?

I wouldn't say that 100%. He's getting away with it because he's a first time offender, and he's not hood as shite.
If these where two random kids in North Baton Rouge in a broke arse Impala they probably would have been hit with intent to distribute and any other charge the cop could think of, and they would still be sitting in jail.

It's not required by law to get a gun checked out before buying it privately. It's just not. Now is it a loophole that needs to be closed? Maybe so...but he didn't commit a crime by buying a gun he had no reason to suspect was stolen. And that is a legal defense in these cases. The police will usually trace the sale back to the original thief, which is what should happen. Cam likely purchased the gun from a friend who purchased it from a friend, etc who actually stole the gun. The police will go after that guy and Cam's charge will be reduced or dismissed. Watch and see.

That is his affirmative defense. Although it is the defendant's burden to prove an affirmative defense, unless there is some good evidence refuting his lack of knowledge of the gun being stolen (yet to be seen, maybe the prosecutor has something/maybe not), then this will likely result in the poss stolen gun charge being dropped/reduced. And that is likely the only charge that was going to result in jail time/felony conviction.

They were at the range earlier to get some practice in in case the drug deal went bad.

So, Robinson said that he didn't know the gun was stolen? Well, if he said he didn't know, that's good enough for me. If he knew it was stolen, I'm sure he would just say so.
