That's not a very tall order.

A #1 seed in the last twenty years and an NCAA participant under Ellis (two Sweet 16s) is as good some of their rivals.

This is true. Prior to the SECN, Memphis would've been a better destination for a basketball coach than Auburn - now? AU probably is.

Even under Calipari, how often did you see Memphis in the regular season on National TV . How often did you see a poor AU team last year. Give Slive his credit, teaming with ESPN on the SECN was brilliant.

Nah. Memphis is still the better basketball school even as a mid major. Pastner is over rated though and if Pearl can win at Auburn then that will change, but it hasn't yet.

Good points being made about SECN. I just bring it up because the person I heard it from has a connection very close to the situation and he is usually spot on. Not always, but usually. The league comparison is obviously a huge advantage for Auburn. Then again, Memphis is a legitimately strong program historically with access to incredible basketball facilities (Fed Ex Forum).

And the 4 or 5 mill that Bruce would owe to Auburn.

I'm not sure how that's relevant, but okay...

Neither, as I rarely watch basketball on TV unless Alabama is playing ;)

In all serious though, you're making my point. AU also didn't get on TV much prior to the SECN.

Everybody is thinking in terms of the past with NCAA Sports now. The Power 5 in Football, will be the Power 5 in all Sports in the future. Memphis is a much better Program than 80% of the SEC. Five years from now, they will be mentioned in the same breath as UAB and some of the other Universities in the South, even in Basketball. Money can only help them so much in todays market.

Grizzlies might look at him after final 4, but Bruce would like to build a Duke like program at AU.

Realistically, I can only see us winning a NC every 6 or 7 years with only 4 final fours per decade, but it's a start.

Not much at all. University of Memphis or some donors would cut that check. BP to Memphis would be a phenomenal move in my opinion.

Yeh, Memphis wouldn't be a distination that would have come to mind if I was guessing for the reasons you mention. Just passing along what I heard.

Don't know. Got banned from ITAT a couple of years ago for having Tide in my username. Unable to read any threads.

Bottomline: Bruce Pearl needs to re-market his image. If he does it at AU, then he will be in line for some big jobs in 3-5 years. If he goes to Memphis, the whispers of the "Ghost of Calipari" will follow any success there. He has already dealt with the NCAA, he can not afford another round with them.

If Petrino didn't own a motorcycle, he would be the hottest name in coaching right now.
