I think its a mistake to overestimate Oregon, its still little boy football without a grown up defense...UT could jam them with the run game and control clock and play enough defense to get a few turnovers. I dont think we will see the mistake of the past few years of UT trying to air it out 65% of the time.
If UT develops its run game and doesnt abandon it too soon...then they will be in some closer games than folks expect. This has an unfortunate byproduct of Volsheimers...a very bad disease that strikes hillbillies into forgetting who they are and their rightful place sitting at the childrens table with holiday dinner. A prescribed dose of several early SEC losses will combat the ailment and they return to their sour mash stills and first cousins.

UT fans: what is the word coming out of camp?
For Oregon, there is a lot of noise regarding Lyerla (TE) and DeForest Buckner (DE). Those are two that should take it to the next level.
Lyerla could be getting significant carries in an H back role. That is definitely an interesting development with the departure of Barner. The distribution of carries is the big question mark. Lyerla really only carried against Arizona last year and we never saw that package again.

The only question in this game is can Tennessee run the ball. If they can't, it'll be ugly. If they can, who knows?
I'm not getting my hopes up.

The final scrimmage of camp was held today for the Ducks. www.goducks.com has practice reports (click on Rob Moseley blog) and the updated roster.
The cliff notes:
The Good
1) Dline has been the storyline of camp. Heimuli came into camp healthy for the first time in his career and the line is deep. This should be a fun match up to watch Tenn OL vs Ducks DL.
2) Oregon got a kicker in Matt Wogan (this has been a troubling spot) who is an automatic touchback machine. Maldonado has been a disgrace to his Mexican heritage.
The Bad
1) Thomas Tyner, our freak of a true frosh at rb, has been injured with an apparent ankle injury.
2) The linebacking unit, particularly inside, is still unsettled and the depth chart will be determined tomorrow. The ILBs are little light in the pants. Hardrick (243), Walker (219), Cassell (218), Malone (212). We play OLBs at the LOS and they have more sand in the pants than the ILBs by scheme but this rotation is very light.
The Intriguing
1) Josh Huff and Colt Lyerla have been conspicuously included in the rushing game in more than one practice report. Lyerla is a 250 TE/HBACK and Huff plays WR/SB. #swissarmyoffense.
2) Any notions of the Ducks being light in the pants in the trenches has been shattered. The starting two deep on the DL is Heimuli 6'4" 314, Keliikipi 6'3" 306, Balducci 6'4" 297, Armstead 6'8" 295, Hart 6'6 287 and Buckner 6'7" 286.

Your team is soft. Weight has nothing to do with that. Congrats on being the Washington State of tSEC.

We were putting a strangle hold on KSU while Florida shite the bed against UL.

I am actually interested in learning about Tennessee. The nice thing about doing so on the SECrant is there are non-Tennessee fans to temper the hyperbole.
You're on the wrong board for that. However, our O-Line is probably the best in CFB right now and yes, all of them will be going NFL. And yes, McCullers is that good (he tends to get double teamed a lot but they're moving him around to see if they can free him up a little more so he can make more big plays). Our linebackers also good.
Our secondary? Who knows if the player switches will work. The group used last year was awful. The 3-4 was a terrible experiment for us.
The rest of the offense? Talented but unknown/unproven.
And you just now have people showing up? Hell, we've had Duck posters on our board for years now.

Oregon is going to lose. Chip was the brains.

Oregon has not been able to handle SEC competiton. Auburn and LSU beat them.
Oregon does not know what is in store from them when they face a SEC team with SEC players.

Word out of camp is that our defense is better. WRs are talented but inexperienced. All 4 QBs making progress but they've intentionally kept from naming a starter.

All Oregon will have to do is hand the ball off and their quick RBs/WRs will make it to the end all day and score a bazillion TDs with ease. Our back 7 is gonna be bad - and slow.

My excitement about the game is to see our DL measure up against that OL. The DLINE has dominated in fall camp.

As a fan I'll never start a game thinking we're gonna lose - those are the Vandy and Kentucky fans. I might acknowledge its a long shot, though. Nobody knows crap until a few games are played. I'm hoping the new coaches might tweak a few things and coach them up a little and something good might happen. Hope we're undefeated when we play Oregon (not taking it for granted) and we look competitive out there.

Tennessee has 0 chance. Stop all the bull. No chance in the world. Tennessee is very, very, very bad this year.
