Where to begin...
Chris Donald, Brandon Warren, Gerald Riggs JR., Jonathan Crompton, LeMarcus Coker...those are just off the top of my head.

I'm always skeptical of a 5* coming out of Arkansas. It's not always that the competition is bad, but for whatever reason they just don't translate well to the college game.
Winston, Tenpenny, Frazier, Mustain.
There are Exceptions too like McFadden.
Dyer was great his freshman year, but a thuggish dumbass over all.
It just seems Arkansas 5 stars flame out much more than other states. Possibly because there are so few of them if any most years.
A general rule for Arkansas players is that those in the northern part of the state are often overrated, while those in the southern part are often underrated. Of the players you named, only Frazier and Mustain were from the northern part.
I think a lot of players who were busts were really not so bad, but were just in the wrong system or had a bad coach.

In recent memory? Enrique Davis.
I went to high school with Enrique. He ran like a bull as a sophomore and junior. He got his bell rung against crestview and ran timid for the rest of his football career

We had two kids out of Wilcox Central in the early 00's that were supposed to be studs. Eric Packer and Chris Browder. Browder ended up transferring to auburn and didn't contribute at either school. I think Packer quit football. Wilcox Central had some nasty teams back then

Tenpenny was the third rated RB in bama's class that year, behind Henry and Kamara. Just a solid 4 star.
Frazier was also a 4 star.
Dyer, Winston, McFadden, and Mustain were 5 star recruits.
The highly recruited Arkansans that decide to stay in state seem to have better college careers on average than the ones that get talked into leaving.

Warren and Coker were actually damn good players who made poor off the field choices. Riggs wasn't a complete bust, imo. Crompton was a bust until his final year. Donald was a 5* bust, did he even see the field other than on special teams?

Warren and Coker were busts because they made decisions that took them off of the field. Riggs wasn't a complete bust...but my expectations for him were a bit over the top.
I think Donald saw the field a lot...after transferring to UTC. I remember when that class signed...he was my consolation for Harrison Smith going to Notre Dame.

In my mind, it's a guy that never even made it to campus. He was the top rated player in the south and one of the best in the country; David Paine.

Linnie Patrick- Jasper Alabama- 1980- THE BEST high school running back I ever saw this side of Bo. Went to Bama and could never unseat any of the wishbone backs with names like Joe Carter, Paul Ott Carruth, Ricky Moore and David Casteal. Don't know if I ever saw a bigger bust at Alabama.
-------------------------------------------
He may not have lived up to your expectations, but he was hardly a bust and time's blurring your memory of how he stacked up against those backs you listed.
Linnie Patrick seemed to never be on Bears Good side, but he had two runs during the game for 315 (1981) that keep him from being a bust.. LINK ..
He also led team in rushing as a Freshman

Yep. He was a good back. He only gets labeled a bust by some because he could have/should have been a great back.

For A&M it HAS to be Jorrie Adams. He was the No. 1 ranked OT in the nation.
Dennis Cocksucking Motherfricking Francione moved him to DT. frick Fran.
Adams got caught smoking and selling pot. Kicked off the team.
He transferred to Abaline Christian or some place and ended up getting busted again for some other tPOS behavior. He is in jail now, I think.

Not a UAB fan. But one of the biggest busts I've ever seen was Mac Campbell out of Alexandria, AL around 1997. At only 5' 8", the guy was electric. He had over 2K yards as an 8th grader. AHSAA would only count 9-12 grades in the record books, so he ended up with around 8,600 official yards and around 160 TDs for his career. I remember a ton of buzz around him my Jr. year in HS. They actually put us out of the playoffs that year.
Everyone wondered if he was going to sign with AU or UA. Then it came out that, no matter how hard he tried, he absolutely couldn't pass the HS exit exam and he had put up like a 6 on the ACT. That exit exam was incredibly easy.
National signing day rolls around and he signed with UAB. However, I don't think he ever officially graduated HS.

Quay Evans top DT in nation. Played freshman year and some sophomore year. Never lived up to hype and got kicked off the team twice

Bama's biggest bust wasn't a player, but a coach, "Ears" Whitworth, mid 1950's.
1955 record 0 wins 10 losses (with Bart Starr at quarterback)
1956 - 2 7 1 tie (finished 10th in 12 team league (Ga Tech and Tulane were in at the time - Tulane and Kentucky were 11 and 12)
1957 - 2 -7 -1 again finished 11th ahead of Kentucky

I was in around the 4th/5th grade when Dupree was in high school. That dude was truely a man among boys. He actually went to USM the season after OU but was never eligible, so that spring(84) he signed a huge contract to play for the NO Breakers of the USFL. He then tore up his knee in 85, and sat out about 5 years. He then tried out and made the LA Rams and played for a few years.
