I don't think Sumlin is going to ask Kyler to play defense.

When I think bust I think of the marquise elmore, brandon miller, albert hollis (although that's really not his fault due to injury, I'm just saying), blake barnes/christian lemays of the world.

This + Jasper Sanks.

I wanted him sooooo bad. Can't remember what year he was, but it was during a time where we were constantly whiffing on OL talent. Definite weakness of our overall recruiting at the time.

I was shocked that he never amounted to anything.

I thought he was decent at Arkansas, until Nutt decided to play Dick more.

Only thing I miss about Crow, is the guy that created the #FakeIsiahCrowell twitter account.

I still laugh thinking about this one.

Ryan Perribust--QB who was gonna pick up the mantle from Matt Flynn and win us another 4 or 5 NC's.

You had to like the kid's confidence. He was only a sophomore in 2007. 2009 could have been really special with him playing as a senior.

2008's Malveto experiment probably wiped out any shot LSU had at accomplishing anything other than a Peach Bowl win.

Never heard of Ricardo Hurley? Us either...5 star, all everything bust. He played ok, just no where near his lofty expectations

nick brassel and pat pat come to mind. Schaeffer would have been outstanding in a read option as we saw briefly against LSU. Now LSU has hired the idiot that screwed that game and season up.

Marcus Dupree was the most gifted RB ever, probably. Phenomenal speed and size combo.

Linnie Patrick- Jasper Alabama- 1980- THE BEST high school running back I ever saw this side of Bo. Went to Bama and could never unseat any of the wishbone backs with names like Joe Carter, Paul Ott Carruth, Ricky Moore and David Casteal. Don't know if I ever saw a bigger bust at Alabama.

He may not have lived up to your expectations, but he was hardly a bust and time's blurring your memory of how he stacked up against those backs you listed.

His time and Carruth's overlapped in 1981 and 1982. In those Carruth got more touches in 1981 (66 to 61) but he played in 2 more games. Patrick got 20 more touches in 82 despite playing in one less game. Both were on the roster in 1983, but Carruth didn't play after blowing out his knee in the spring.

Joe Carter? Really? Patrick's 22nd on the all time Alabama rushing list. Carter is 49th. The last season at Bama for both was 1983. Both played in 11 games. Carter got 48 touches. Patrick got 91.

Ricky Moore? Well, that's an interesting comparison. Patrick would never have unseated Moore if for no other reason than the fact that Moore was a fullback. He's also Alabama's 11th leading all time rusher. The next four guys after him are Johnny Musso, Glen Coffee, Siran Stacy, and Tony Nathan so it is safe to say Ricky was pretty darned good.

Finally, Carruth and Carter - neither of whom got as many touches at Bama as Patrick and trail him on the career rushing list for Bama both played three seasons in the NFL. Ricky Moore made it for six.

And what about David Casteal, you ask? Linnie Patrick left Alabama in 1983. David Casteal played his first game there in 1986.

Linnie may have been a discipline problem. He may have been lazy, and he may have had vastly more potential than he demonstrated but he wasn't a bust.

This. Even moreso than Summers, Hurley was one of Holtz's biggest whiffs. I remember interviewing Hurley one year, and being amazed at how physically imposing he was. But he just never put it together to be much more than that.

I guess you could add Shaq Roland to this list, too. No more highly touted guys out of Lexington high.

Beckham-Had 1 decent year but regardless of his talent a bust in life

Van Zant was hurt in a summer all-star game before he got to Mizzou. By all accounts a great guy with a good ethic but serious knee injury. With today's reconstructive knee surgery who knows what he would have been. I hate calling injuries busts though.
