Nor does USC. 16 claimed national titles between the 2 says it may not matter too much in the winning aspect. ;)

How long has USC been playing in the Coliseum though? The Canes moved to Joe Robbie (or whatever it's called now) a few years ago and are lucky to get 25k most games.

Florida - mostly from a recruiting standpoint. Walk out your back door - oh look a few four stars are standing right here.

And of course their recent elite status helps. But LSU has that too, obviously.

This is what is funny about Florida. People act like they were always good, but were terrible until ole ball coach got there.

I don't know UF's records/stats but they were good in the 80's, even ranked #1 in '84 for a week or so if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah until our SEC title was retroactively taken away.

I just recall UF having some very good teams in the 80's. Nothing like the mega-success that would follow under Spurrier but there were some very good teams back then.

You are right. We were not awful, just never broke through and won an official championship. UF has a pretty good record since the 50's when the population starting shifting towards Florida.

The thing is, we didn't get put on a bowl ban until after the regular season was done in 84. In the spring of 85, the SEC decided that for now on, a team with a bowl ban couldn't win the conference. Some a-hole then thought it should retroactively apply to UF, even though other SEC champions with bowl bans in the past (like 57 Auburn) got to keep theirs.

It's funny how through all of the consensus national titles, SEC titles, and bowl wins, the league taking away UF's 84 SEC title still bothers the hell out of me (and I was barely alive then).
