I wouldn't say Knoxville is in the top tier, but it's improved by leaps and bounds over the last 5 years and slowly working towards it. We've got a great downtown dining scene, 3 different districts to drink in with over 23 bars between them, and a recent exploding beer culture. There will be 17 breweries in the city by the end of 2016. Over half of which will be part of an Ale Trail linking them all together along a several mile stretch in Downtown North. Close proximity to some of the best outdoors East of the MS river, etc.

The biggest knock forever has been how outdated the Strip is (Bar section of campus). Once that's finally brought into the 21st century (currently underway as I type this) it should add for some much needed ambiance we've been missing.

Lots of moving pieces right now and it's nice to see.

What I really want to know is why an msu fan would create a clemson alter.

Athens doesn't have a mall and big box stores? If it does, it does in fact look like a typical city.

this isn't a criticism. somebody said Athens was quaint though and i don't really agree with that characterization. it actually has kind of gritty look to it. not bad gritty though.

cuz you are paranoid and have long hair

a lot of msu people would have thrown Starkvegas under the bus for Athens too, sadly

starkvegas is my favorite Sec town and campus, which should not surprise anybody given i went to clemson. just stated my sincere opinion, feel free to go with Athens.

You're either a very elaborate alter or just one dumb motherfricker

Yeah, in the area outside of downtown. And that still doesn't qualify it as a typical city.

I love Mississippi State and Starkville, and my 5 years here have been the best years of my life. However I'll take off my maroon tinted glasses and say that Athens and *sigh* Oxford are 1a and 1b in my opinion. Athens has the edge as far as size and natural scenic beauty, but Oxford is everything a small college town should be.

This will get sorted out over time. There's at least one damn good college town that has been recently added to the mix.

Starkville is getting better every year. I like it's size, Oxford as well. Athens is my favorite college town because I've spent a lot of time there, and it has the best downtown offerings. At least this was the case 14 years ago.

Pick any city in the State of Alabama and you'll have your answer.

Columbia mizzouri does look cool, and the campus.

here's my top 5 in no particular order

starkvegas
Knoxville
Columbia sc
Columbia mo
fayetville

the one that I would have gone to out of high school, if parents were open to me going out of state, is probably Knoxville due to proximity to SC and being near the mountains.

Columbia Sc at that time did not have The Vista yet, that was just a bunch of warehouses. the vista has a great vibe and I prefer Cola lot more to Athens.
