i think if you have a lot of colleges, especially in downtown area, then it is reasonable to say it is a college town. College town doesn't mean that is all it is.

That is literally the only thing that matters. A college town is only there because of the university. If you were to take UGA out of Athens, what would happen? If you were to take Vandy out of Nashville? See the difference? I mean, I know you don't because you're an imbecile but just want to at least say I tried to educate you today.

that is your own definition of college town. i say a college town is also one that has a lot of colleges, especially 1 or more public colleges, in the downtown area. i wouldn't call Nashville a college town because Vandy is a small private school.

if there are a lot of college kids in a city, it seems reasonable to say it is a college town.

Excellent point. I've always considered Boston a college town.

seems like a city with a lot of colleges or one huge public university downtown, is a college town.

you can't escape gamecock sports and news if you live in columbia and the university dominates the downtown area. by your definition it isn't a college town.

there are little small colleges out in the sticks somewhere, let's consider Elon in NC. So Elon with a small percentage of the number of college students as Atlanta, is more of a college town than Atlanta?

i wouldn't call Athens 'quaint'. so quaint isn't def. of college town. it is a nice small town but not really quaint

First off Athens is quaint. Secondly a college town is a town (not a city) that thrives because of its college. tuscaloosa Athens Columbia etc wouldn't even be known on a map without the college. That's a college town.

Great point. When I think college town, the first cities that always come to my mind are Boston, New York City, Philly, DC, and Chicago...

ok, like i said, that is one defintion. i'm a little more flexible. i think it is any city where a college's prescence is known and felt. G Tech's football stadium is right by the interstate in downtown ATL

no big deal.
