i like Starkville and i prefer the campus much more to Ole Miss.

why would it surprise you Clemson person likes Starkville?

you are one of these guys who agrees with whatever the majority opinion seems to be, ie Athens is the best. I tend to go against the flow.

the best college town is the one a person likes best. it is subjective.

If you don't like Athens then you suck at life. I HATE georgia but will go to Athens any chance I get. It's the perfect college downtown. Music, bars, women. Everything is great but the police

yeah there are no bars, women, music at any other college but Athens. only college in world that has bars and young women. lol

i'm not in college anymore so it is a moot point anyway, and no I don't such at life if i don't think Athens is the best college town in the world.

what am i rebelling against?

i just form my own opinions. i been to Athens, it is a nice town and campus but don't see how it is better than any other college. so much hype.

i don't get that excited about some bars and restaurants, and most local live music isn't that great otherwise they'd be national.

No. You aren't. I have multiple friends in pharmacy school there who went to UGA. Wanna guess which place they like exceedingly more?

You don't have to like Athens, that's fine. But you can't just make up your own definition of a college town when >95% of the people would say differently.

Eta: Starkville is your favorite college town? What in the world makes Starkville your favorite? I mean, I like Starkville ok, but cmon man.

Chris Fowler of ESPN said he didn't care for Athens

His exact quote was that it had too many "overdressed, overserved frat boys:

Ie: "We went out and there were a bunch of drunk 20 year olds and I didn't like it"

quote:

he's been to a lot of college campuses

I don't do this for a living so obviously he's been to more than I have, but I've been to quite a few campuses in my life from georgia to arizona and none compare to athens. I'm sorry you're to jaded to admit that a team you hate can actually have at least one redeeming quality.

I havent been to enough of the others to make an informed statement on the best, but I can speak to Lexington.

You can't beat the Keeneland/UK football doubleheader in the fall. If you play us here in October, get off your butt and come to Lexington. We have numerous craft breweries, a large local food scene, live music, all the amenities any other city would have. Tailgating on large grass fields with some parking lot around Commonwealth, as opposed to large swaths of concrete and parking garages or walking two miles from tailgate area to our stadium as others do elsewhere. Bourbon, bourbon, bourbon. And typically when you nake the trip here you leave with a W. That is finally changing however.

i believe G State is the largest public, right across from G Tech.

Yes, but they also have the most satellite campuses of any university as well. The population of studetns that go to State and live in the city is drastically smaller than the population that loves OTP and commutes in or to a satellite campus around the metro area.

quote:

you obviously biased b/c you go to school at G Tech's rival school. if 3 or more G Tech fans come on here and agree with you then i will concede the point.

I have lived in and around GA and the metro area all of my life. I'm not speaking out of ignorance or bias. I can't say the same for you.

quote:

my bro lives in atl and i know her.

Cool. He's one of about 448 thousand.

quote:

i get the mercer campus and some of the hbcs are small schools but all these students added up are a lot of college students in a city. thusly, it can be argued it is a college town.

Based on that logic, it's also a giant ghetto, a giant nightclub, a giant hipster commune, and a giant gang battlefield.

quote:

one could argue GTECH's prescence attracted a lot of the employers to ATL.

Or - and follow me for a minute - it's 1.) Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and 2.) Atlanta's geographic location. Tech doesn't register as an incentive for business any more than UGA does an hour down the highway.

quote:

i'd argue that Athens looks more like a regular city than a college town.

Actually it looks nothing like a regular city. Not even close.

quote:

has a mall and a more built up downtown and typical suburbia.

I don't think you've ever actually been to Athens. I don't think you've ever left Clemson, SC.

quote:

Athens prob ably has more restaurants and bars than Columbia SC downtown

And in probably a 10th of the size. Thanks for proving my point that Athens is the best

quote:

Athens has more active downtown than every city in GA except atl and maybe savannah.

It's amazing right? Geographically much smaller and, yet, so much to do. Again, thanks for proving my point.

1.) No, you're not.

2.) The reason most are ignorant of the fact that Mercer has a campus in ATL is because it doesn't matter. Hell, you completely glossed over SCAD's downtown campus which I know has more influence. But, please, don't let me make your point for you.

If we're talking actual towns, Athens, Fayetteville, and Knoxville are top 3, quibble about the order as much as you want.

Nashville is badass, but it's a coty, don't know if that rules it out or not.

Baton Rouge historically is a weird blend of college town and big city, as it's also the states Capitol. It very much is a" bigger now than it was ever intended" place. And there are places I don't recommend you spend a lot of time around, but downtown has gotten better, the Varsity/Chimes is still a really cool place along with some others, and there's great food everywhere. Also one hour away from the best city on the planet.

you obviously biased as a Georgia SuperFan.

Clem don't play UGA that much and I don't hate them in general. I like that Murray kid and Gurley and was disappointed they didn't pull out the Auburn game b/c I felt like they earned the win.

i already said Athens is decent college town, just don't think it is better than other ones. you can't force people to agree with you on this, it is subjective.
