a city with over 80 colleges seems more like a college town than 1 with only 1 college. :)

when you are stuck on the interstate prior ot after a G Tech football game on Sat in Atl, you'll agree it is a college town. lol

it doesn't beat every other college town, for everybody. you obviously like bars, and it does have a lot of bars.

I don't hit up the bars hardly ever. It has an incredible food scene, solid access to things to do outdoors, a nearly unmatched music and arts scene, and a diverse array of shopping options without it feeling like you're in Atlanta. Plus, it's just beautiful:

Keith Fowler, ESPNer who's seen a lot of campuses, didn't have Athens in his top 5. I believe Blacksburg was in it.

So, Keith Fowler lacks taste. Glad we established that.

I think Clemson is better.

Well, now I just feel dumb for wasting time responding.

Wiscy is way too cold to be argued as best one. lol

Madison is usually the only college town in America ranked ahead of Athens. Google search and find out why.

Atlanta on Saturdays is full of SUV's and trucks with window flags going to Auburn/Bama/UGA/USCe/etc. GT causes less traffic than Braves games.

You linked a buzzfeed article as proof of something. I rest my case.

i think if you have a lot of colleges, especially in downtown area, then it is reasonable to say it is a college town. College town doesn't mean that is all it is.

Then basically every major city in the world is by your definition a college town. Completely defeats the purpose of the college town.

There's a very good chance that UTk will have more fans in the new Falcons Stadium than Tech. Georgia State and Ga Perimeter are commuter colleges. The HBCs barely register as population goes. Kennessaw is NOT a part of Atlanta.

Ask anyone in Atlanta and they'd look at you like you were insane for suggesting Atlanta is a college town.

ok, i'm not sure how UGA has more access the outdoors than any other school and it isn't next to a lake or that close to mountains. Clemson is adjacent to a lake and near two other clear water lakes at the base of the mountains.

i think Athens is a decent college town but I don't think it is better than other college towns, including most SEC ones.

I prefer a smaller town than Athens for college. That is why I list StarkVegas as my favorite SEC town.

Rambling Wreck has tons of fans on the interstate in ATL on gamedays. they all downtown prior and after the game plus the opposing teams fans too. YOu feel G Tech's prescenes in the city. it isn't out of sight, out of mind, like a Furman or Wake Forest.

look at google map of downtown ATL, G TEch and Georgia State and the HBCS cover up a lot of it. emory and mercer are nearby as well.

i'd argue that Athens looks more like a regular city than a college town. More like Greenville SC, has a mall and a more built up downtown and typical suburbia. Athens prob ably has more restaurants and bars than Columbia SC downtown.

It sits on the Oconee River and not far from Lake Oconee. But I said solid options, not the best in the conference (I think Arky wins that one).

They barely exist during their typical down years. Their students barely register a social pulse in the city.

Their campuses, maybe, but the student populations either commute or aren't as large as their geographical footprint would suggest.

Emory is a small private school (much like Vandy which apparently ruled Vandy and Nashville out of contention) and Mercer is in an entirely different city (and is also a small private school).

lol Mercer has an Atlanta campus, their med school or pharmacy school or something. Mercer was only other college I applied to in high school so i'm little bit of an expert on it. daddy didn't want to pay the higher tuition though so he forced me to go to Clemson and you see how that worked out. lol

G Tech is one of two main publics in state of GA. Its precenses is felt, lot of G Tech alumni in ATL. i seen all the fans downtown, Clemson and GTECH fans all over the place.

So they have a satellite graduate campus in ATL and that contributes to the city being a college town (again, nevermind that its a small private school which, by your own standards, disqualifies it)?

G Tech is one of two main publics in state of GA.

Um, it's not even in the top 4 largest universities by population in the state.

quote:

Its precenses is felt, lot of G Tech alumni in ATL.

Most people wouldn't even realize where Tech is if it weren't built on the curb of the downtown connector.

quote:

i seen all the fans downtown, Clemson and GTECH fans all over the place.

Neither come close to the number of UGA, Auburn, Bama, UF, etc. alumni that live in and around ATL and who vacate the city on most Saturdays to go to actual college towns for football.

i believe G State is the largest public, right across from G Tech.

you obviously biased b/c you go to school at G Tech's rival school. if 3 or more G Tech fans come on here and agree with you then i will concede the point.

my bro lives in atl and i know her.

i get the mercer campus and some of the hbcs are small schools but all these students added up are a lot of college students in a city. thusly, it can be argued it is a college town. one could argue GTECH's prescence attracted a lot of the employers to ATL.

I noticed this observation of mine got passed over: i'd argue that Athens looks more like a regular city than a college town. More like Greenville SC, has a mall and a more built up downtown and typical suburbia. Athens prob ably has more restaurants and bars than Columbia SC downtown

Athens has more active downtown than every city in GA except atl and maybe savannah.

Good because Macon sucks.

But that's even worse than talking about Auburn being in Montgomery and acting like AUM is the same as the real Auburn.

Athens has the most bars, pretty women, scenic downtown, great music, and some good eateries. There's no debate on who's the best college town in the southeast.
