Melo or Durant are number one though.

He gets a ton of hate (lots on our end) and he was shite for a pro, but Christian Laettner is still one of the best college players I've ever seen.

Of course my Dad would tell you it was Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

Then I'll take AD or Durant.

I do wonder if Greg Oden played a full freshman season, just how good he would've been.

This wouldn't even be a debate had Freshmen been allowed to play back in Kareem's day...

Some of you guys must have just been born

This is hard to rate since the one and done era started. There isn't as much competition and it's basically a McDonald's all a,ericam game

15-20 years ago it was a lot tougher for freshman. Chris Webber and Chris Jackson are guys that are as impressive as anyone.

You said this in a world that has seen Michael Jordan, Carmelo Anthony, and Tim Duncan play at the collegiate level.

Let's tap the brakes juuuuuust a tad, OP.

As a freshman**

Duncan averaged 9-9 and 3 blocks
Jordan averaged like 12-4, I posted accurate stats earlier
Melo with 22 and 10 but he was a non existent facilitator

The thread is premature but I've never seen a freshman with the court vision like Simmons. Not to mention he's 17 when the majority of names mentioned in this thread were at least 19 their first year of college. A 6'10 point forward is just stupid. We can wait two months and revisit this thread

Remember Durant dropping something like 50 points in their overtime loss to us in Knoxville and thinking to myself that he looked like an NBA all star playing with high schoolers, the man was so far ahead of anyone else on the court it was incredible to watch.

Very dismissive of Carmelo. He was incredible. Not sure if you could find a more clutch freshman ever. Syracuse does not sniff a title without him.

He single-handedly carried that Syracuse team to a championship. Facilitating isn't just about assist ratios.

This.

Also - Bernard King was absolutely amazing - even as a freshman.

There are MANY names we could toss out - Alan Iverson, Ralph Sampson, Patrick Ewing, Steph Curry, Wayman Tisdale (first freshman all-American AP), Kenny Anderson...

Jordan had two upperclassmen NBA HOFers on his team in Perkins and Worthy.

I'm 25. Carmelo wasn't a facilitator of the basketball at Syracuse nor has he ever been. Simmons is the second coming of Lebron. Given the limited sample size we've seen, it's safe to assume he'll only get better.

needs work on his jump shot, once that becomes a major weapon he will be unreal
