It wasn't me doubting they would go necessarily, it was me thinking the guy was retarded for thinking any of them were worth 7 mil and would do great at Baylor.

I more have doubts Baylor can pay a coach $7 million a year. Their are financing the stadium, Briles's buyout, and a new AD all on Big 12 money. They will be hunting for a $3 million a year coach at best.

Yeah they really blew it when they let Louisville go to the ACC. UK fans might not want to hear it but I think that was the misfire that killed the Big 12.

Absolutely.

Gus should take the Baylor job in a heartbeat. The "fambly" has already turned on him and he is dead man walking in the SEC. He can have good success at Baylor and in the Big12 and he doesn't have to compete against Bama, LSU, UGA, UF, Ole Miss etc. Much better gig for him.

Hope not. Gus is a decent dude, not bad for the SEC, and I'm cool with him where he is.

Reality, Baylor isn't attractive enough under normal circumstances for Gus. Why in the world would they be attractive to him (or any good coach) now?

Gus
Les
Sumlin

2 of these 3 will be looking for a new job next year. It may be a good opportunity for one of them.

I think at 6 mil a year, anyone with the exception of Saban and Meyer, would be interested, hot seat or not.

I'll pay what we have to for success. While I agree that Herman is unknown, he's probably one of the safest bets as an unknown if that makes sense.

Why not Bill Bilichick?

Would they still have to pay the contract for Briles or the AD if they were found to be fired for cause and violating terms in their contract?

That's what I was wondering...

They still aren't paying $7 mil a year for a coach.

Yes, but given the restraint in Briles's statement I don't think that will happen. I think they will negotiate a buyout to avoid a lawsuit from him, and it will still be expensive.

Plus you have to consider many of their more rabid fans (aka the ones who pay) are upset that the univeristy picked its image as a college over football success. They wanted the school to pull an Ole Miss and cling to Briles till they couldn't anymore. These people will not be buying season ticket packages next year out of protest, which wrecks the cash flow they are depending on to hire a coach.

$3-ish million a year at most, you watch.

No, but rarely are situations black and white (see Petrino). Even with the current Baylor situation, Briles will have an argument/defense. Thus, likely be negotiated/settled.

Putting it on Saban means something. I can understand Baylor's interest, 2/3rds of the time he has put close to 400 yards of Offense against the Defensive genius.

He's also lost 2/3 of the time against Saban as a head coach.

Unlike Freeze, but he did have Ellis Johnson for two of those games.
