Per their 247 Mod-

"I'm definitely not privy to the list that Ian was working off before he resigned... But common sense would say that Gus Malzahn and Larry Fedora were two names out of state that seem to fit the culture of the program who Baylor may make a run at.

I don't know if Gus would be allowed to bring his DC with him however."

A few posters-

1. "What has he done at Auburn except win with possibly the best QB in college football history?

This year they were preseason top 5 and almost lost to Jacksonville state as well as fail horribly to get even close to their expectations this past year.

I'm sorry but please don't bring this guy here and over pay him. I'd rather Fedora."

2. "Throw 7mil at Tom Herman and call it a day"

3. I think at 6 mil a year, anyone with the exception of Saban and Meyer, would be interested, hot seat or not.

4. I'll pay what we have to for success. While I agree that Herman is unknown, he's probably one of the safest bets as an unknown if that makes sense.

Chip Kelly
Les Miles
Kirby Smart

I call those three guys up and offer 7mil and whatever else they want and fax them the paperwork to sign.

5. What? You need to do some research on Malzahn. His offense at Auburn led them to a national title snd he left to take a HC job, he's never been fired. The Auburn team ranked after he left and Chizik was fired, and they quickly hired the architect of the NC offense. In turn, he turned around the team immediately and had them right back within a couple of plays from another NC. He has taken a hit the last two years (relatively, still over 500 and on toughest division in CF. That two year run has put him in hot water due to overzealous fans jealous of Alabama, but that two year downturn can be directly attributed to terrible QB play. You can blame him for recruiting missed at QB, but many thought Johnson would be excellent. His offense is about as close to Brikes as there is although clearly different. my choice is Babers or Monty but I'd be very happy with Malzahn.

Maybe hiring LSU or UGA's coach is more realistic, as one poster said?

I don't think they have any grasp on reality down in Waco.

Might be impossible since he is an alum of Miami but, as a religious institution, I would make a hard run at Mark Richt.

Who does Baylor think they are? this is equivalent of me (an LSU fan) saying that we should to replace Johnny Jones with Coach K, Bill Self, or Tom Izzo.

What a Joke!

They need to realize that even Tom Herman would be reach for their program.

If Malzahn leaves Auburn before the end of his six-year deal, the head coach owes the university the sum total of the compensation Auburn pays to any assistant coaches who don't follow Malzahn to his new job or aren't retained by Auburn after a new coach is hired.

Doubt He'd take Gardner or Steele there and that would be an expensive AF buyout.

Personally, I wouldn't care if he left. I think it would be a dumb place for any coach to go right now.

He can put up 630 yards against anybody in the Big 12, it is not that special. Putting it on Saban means something. I can understand Baylor's interest, 2/3rds of the time he has put close to 400 yards of Offense against the Defensive genius.

You catch on pretty quick.

Knowing Baylol they probably are making a run at Kevin Steele to see if he can break his BDF losing record.

What a horrible conference. I saw two days ago they said no to giving walk on Mayfield another year at OU and then changed their mind the next day to allow him to have an extra year after OU said "we're outta here".

Then they (university of texas) told Houston to pound sand because they have the Houston market because the Longhorn Network is received on some TV's there.

A writer for the Houston Chronicle ripped the AD a new one in today's newspaper.

BRIAN T. SMITH
UT's objection to Big 12 expansion is significant despite silly reasoning
Perrin's desire to stay at 10 teams carries weight despite silly logic

It is like living in a third-world country, eagerly preparing to enter the United States for the first time and hearing the President insist during a State of the Union address there's no way in heck you're getting in - just as you're about to have your passport stamped.

OK. The University of Houston's current conference really isn't that bad. And Texas athletic director Mike Perrin only has his job because Steve Patterson was such a snake.

But let's be real: Could the grand opening of the much-ballyhooed Big 12 spring meetings have gone any worse for the Cougars? Other than Charlie Strong stepping down and Tom Herman driving up to Austin on the same day, no way.

The mean ol' Longhorns - public bullies despite fielding a 5-7 football team last year - appeared to shoot a hole through UH's expansion heart with just a few words Wednesday.

"The prudent thing for us to do as a conference is stay where we are," said Perrin, an apparent isolationist.

Then Patterson's replacement said something even more idiotic.

COLLEGE SPORTS

The university demoted Starr, who as an independent counsel delivered a report that served as the basis for Bill Clinton's impeachment, on May 26, 2016, and fired Art Briles, its football coach over the school’s handling of sexual assault cases. "Certainly we're in the Houston market," Perrin said. "The Longhorn Network is there."

Um, Mike? Can we talk for a minute?

Must-not-see TV

Now, I don't want to speak for everyone living in the fourth-largest city in America. But let me put it this way: I've never watched the Longhorn Network. I have a pretty good feeling I will never watch your school's stupid TV station. And I honestly wouldn't even know what channel to find it on if I did want to see Mack Brown interviewing a cow or the grainy rebroadcast of a football game from 1969.

Actually, let me speak for the vast majority of this city's sports-obsessed residents: Saying the Longhorns and the Big 12 are "in" Houston because of a network only a few misguided souls dare to watch is like declaring 11-14 under Strong a promising start.

And I thought Texas was a smart school.

No matter how dumb Perrin sounded, his words were heard. And it's the last thing the Coog cult needed as it waited for something good to finally come out of Irving.

As watered down as the Big 12 has become, Texas and Oklahoma - the latter at least acknowledges the world is round - still carry the conference. If one of the Big Two casually flick you away like an annoying fly without even pausing to think? Good luck breaking down the front door.

Red McCombs, who might know which channel the Longhorn Network is on, has proudly been selling UH like a 2016 Ford. The restless billionaire inched me closer toward buying a new car by correctly attaching "dead wrong" to Perrin's comments.

"It's naive, at least, to say that we already have a big presence with the University of Texas in Houston," McCombs told KRIV on Thursday. "We've had enough mistakes made on the UT side the last two years. I hope they don't compound it by another one."

Yahoo! Go get 'em, cowboy.

Didn't take the bait

UH wisely didn't respond to Perrin's schoolyard tease. The Coogs believe they have support in Austin outside of the AD's office. UH also knows it needs Texas as an ally if the Big 12 ever gets its act together and decides to modernize in the new millennium.

A school that has sunk $240 million into facility upgrades is eyeing other cross-country options -start with the Pac-12, go from there - while balancing instant fan gratification with the understanding that the Power 5 is set for another earthquake when major TV deals start to expire in 2023.

My personal problem with that long-term play: Herman could be two schools down the road by the time the Coogs finally find a real conference to call home.

The Big 12 isn't doing anything - other than debating the eligibility of walk-on transfers - unless the new money's right and Texas keeps its prime slice of the pie.

That's what Perrin really told you, me, UH and every other school willing to sell the family heirlooms just for a shot at exchanging the American Athletic Conference for a Power 5 ticket.

It's always about the cash flow and this is all about TV dough. Also, if Texas doesn't want you, you're probably not getting in.

The Big 12 doesn't have a championship game or conference network and is two athletic programs short of a full deck.

But it has the Longhorn Network (if you can find it). And Texas' precious $300 million baby obviously isn't holding the Big 12 back.
I repeat, what a horrible conference and thank you SEC for inviting us.
