Just a simple, logical question that's unsurprisingly yet to have been asked...

If the NCAA has found out(or we know they're about to) that Barney is involved in illegal recruiting activities....why would we place him on administrative leave instead of cutting ties completely? You would think that we would go ahead and let him go now instead of waiting around and firing him later....

Fwiw...if they fired him, that's a definite point towards WE FUUUUUCCCKKKKKKED.

Barney's good... We won't give him the amount of hush/walk away money that Bo Davis got from Bama (~$350,000) but he'll be well compensated ($200,000+)

Hopefully he's reinstated but who knows at this point

OM's handling of this has been a PR disaster. When something like this comes out , meaning something that websites have been predicting, it puts more egg on the Reb admins faces.

This may very well be nothing. The feeling that the only official words from Oxford have been "exemplary cooperation" is leading to speculation though.

Well when "websites" throw out every imaginable prediction on a daily basis...they're bound to at least accidentally hit close to something.

Also...I agree on the PR bit. At first, I was all for our stance of being quiet and cooperating fully....that didn't get us shite but more bullying from the NCAA. Now, part of me wishes we would have just told them to go frick themselves and lawyer up.

Auburn showed the whole league how to handle it.

Has Barney ever been placed on administrative leave since he's been on staff? Is his salary frozen while on leave?

OM obviously doesn't want to fire anyone named in the investigation, or they would have canned a few folks already. But something has obviously been uncovered for OM to just out of the blue place him on leave.

You're definitely fricked. The NCAA is just trying to decide the size of the strap-on and if they want to go in dry or not.

Yeah there's no telling why he was placed on leave....it is strange.

But we fired a recruiting assistant last year and everyone pointed at him saying we did it because of recruiting violations.....but it's pretty well known in ole miss circles that he was slaying co-eds on the reg.

It appears Barney didn't cover his tracks too well.

Whatever.....OM had their own ratting them out on freaking draft night. Nothing MSU leaks is any more damaging than that Tunsil shite.

There are any number of plausible explanations.

First, playing devil's (or Freezus' - same thing right?) advocate nobody truly knows if the admin leave is even related to the NCAA probe. Didn't y'all can another recruiting guy at a time when it looked sure to be investigation related but was actually because he liked to bang sorority girls?

The other side of the coin could be that dirt has turned up and the school needs to investigate it and/or craft a response to the NCAA. Ole Miss could legitimately fire him for cause and owe him nothing, but if you can the guy right now he's under no further obligation to cooperate with the school or the NCAA. While it might initially sound like shutting out the NCAA is a good idea, in reality if the school's position is going to be he went rogue and we didn't know then you need him around. The only way to make that happen is to keep him on staff (but locked away) where is ability to keep getting a paycheck and perhaps negotiate a settlement down the road depends on his cooperation.

In a nutshell, like all NCAA related things the truth of the situation could be at the either end of these extremes or somewhere in between, but nobody will know until the final reports come out.

It's okay, I guess dwelling at the bottom of the SEC your entire football career has its toll on your mental capacity.

This is directed towards State

Well if there's anyone to ask about being a bitch, it's you alright.

That immunity was was given to players at State & auburn and one other SEC west school *cough, bama, cough*. And State reported to the NCAA about the Cam situation which they had too if Cam ended up at State. After the notice, they were still recruiting him.
