just watching the Heisman last night, I thought how much ESPN Hype is involved.

that's been true for years, even before the ESPN machine got going other forms of media also heavily lobbied for certain outcomes.

If ESPN can manipulate the voters for the Heisman, I fear for the 4 Team Playoff System.

The four team playoff system will only be close to objective if they set up objective criteria to allow for entrance into the playoff. There are a lot of people complaining about this IMO because they like a biased system where they can lobby for their favorite team, sell more copy, generate more controversy etc.

Did it not occur to the OP that our "signature win" is your signature loss?

Based on resume alone, who would be the #3 and #4 seeds ? Who would it be based on ESPN ?

This one made me laugh. It also has 3 BCS NCs son. Those 3 came in 4 years. It's one of, if not THE greatest dynasty run in college football. Ever.

Don't be that kid.

People still care about the Heisman? It's been a joke for a few decades.

The discussions about the new playoff have been less than transparent. there seems to be a strong consensus that winning your conference will be highly valued but I've not heard someone say it will be outright required for non-independents. I would assume that the #1 team in the BCS rankings (or whatever replaces the BCS) will always be invited even if they didn't win their conference but I don't know that to be the case.

If they wanted to make it semi-objective they would take the top four conference champs but even that is incompletely objective. "Top four" still implies a ranking of some sort which requires active human subjectivity unless you completely turn it over to the computers.

I don't think anyone really knows exactly how it will play out. As some have argued the 12 year contract for a four team playoff system could be shortened and four teams replaced with a 6 or 8 team field. I think the push for that will likely hit if there's a combination of a good popular team left out and an upset of the higher seed(s) in the four team playoff. Media members etc will profit with a larger field and more at large participation because the subjective drives conversation for their business.

This.

Except for ONE time...Bama seasons...in a nutshell..."lose it's biggest game...then pretend it didn't happen...because Bama looked great in losing...and then bootstrap themselves up by "the tough SEC gauntlet" despite year in and year out having one of the weakest SEC schedules..."

And then gets a mulligan or beat up on Notre Dame.

Bama has had a lot of hype the last 5 years...where the regular rules of losing your toughest test...doesn't seem to apply to them.

Oh, they lost again! "Nevermind, they're still the best" - ESPN

This is actually an interesting question. Alabama fans what would you consider the best win of the season? Avenging the loss to A&M in college station? LSU at home?

Because after they lose they come back and prove they were the best team. Blew out Notre Dame, LSU. Beat A&M this year after losing last year. Has beaten LSU three times in a row since their loss.

You can continue to act like Auburn will beat Alabama every year, but most often they won't while Saban is coaching here.

Also they didn't get a mulligan to beat Notre Dame. They won the SEC. Literally the only year you're talking about is 2011. And Alabama stomped LSU after losing.

It has to be the LSU win. They were the team with the best record they beat. A&M is a nice offensive team but has no standing to be considered a great team seeing as they lost to everyone good they played.

It is more an indictment of ESPN than anything else. A few talking heads convinced the lazy media that the Heisman is a lifetime achievement award and a QB with 7 games less than 180 yards passing is worhty. These same players pushed bama as still being the best team in the country, yet their resume proves otherwise. Again, how hard will ESPN push teams for the 4 Team Playoff to get the matchups they want ?

For me, beating LSU is a big deal any year. LSU is a top program, year in, year out. Aggies were a one man band in 2012 and 2013. We'll see how that program progresses without JFF.

Too bad wins over #3 amd #9 count.

Same reason the rest of the country thinks Bama is still much better than AU. Bama dominated every opponent except A&M. Auburn fluked out a win against Georgia, arguably against Alabama, and also barely beat Mississippi State and Wazzu. On top of that, AU was very fortunate that Manziel was knocked out of the game at a critical point in the 4th quarter.

Domination is the reason everyone considers 2008 UF and 2011 Bama and LSU to be the three best teams in the BCS era from the SEC. They destroyed everyone
