Good morning, — We bring you sad news this morning out of Tuscaloosa. It appears University of Alabama officials made the decision to bench the school’s “Million Dollar Band” from Saturday’s festivities at Royal-Memorial Stadium. Excuse me, what now? Alabama isn’t bringing its band this weekend to the Texas game? A statement to the Tuscaloosa News made the rumor official on Tuesday. “Due to the seating location and configuration of the visiting institution’s ticket allotment at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, the Million Dollar Band will not make the trip this weekend for the Alabama at Texas football game,” Alabama officials said. Here’s what the Alabama statement didn’t tell its fan base: Crimson Tide officials wanted their best fans to get tickets, not band members. That’s the only logical conclusion anyone can draw from this decision. And no, this isn’t a Texas PR problem. This is a bad look for Bama. One of Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte’s first actions upon taking office was to move visiting team bands to the upper deck of Royal-Memorial Stadium. His theory was simple. Why should another team’s band be allowed to sit close to the field and create noise that might impact the Longhorns? LSU cried foul when the Tigers visited Austin in 2019. But everyone was forced upstairs, not just LSU. It’s an interesting sight when opposing teams win at DKR and shower their team with the alma mater and fight song from the upper deck, but alas, we digress. Del Conte told fellow Big 12 athletic directors they had the freedom to put the Texas band wherever they want in their own stadiums. And they do. The “Showband of the Southwest” gets crummy seats at places like West Virginia and Texas Tech. Turnabout is fair play. The Tuscaloosa News pointed out that the Alabama-Texas game contract has standard language that the visiting team’s band allotment must come from the visiting team’s tickets. The visiting team gets 500 complimentary tickets, normally reserved for football staff, and may request up to 4,500 more. “The Host Institution will provide information regarding the standard location of seats for a Visiting Institution's band members,” the contract states, according to the Tuscaloosa News. So, it’s simple. Given a choice to send their band and, granted, have them sit in the upper deck, Alabama officials chose to keep them at home and sell its allotment. Alabama is just like every other school; it’s biggest boosters and season-ticket holders get first dibs.

This band conversation sucks arse.

Also, I want Texas' band down in the lower bowl next year just like every other band in Bryant Denny. It's part of college football and it's fun.

I see nothing wrong with this. Most away games don’t feature the whole band anyways.

They wanted to shove the band into the upper deck.

Sorry you’re a gullible moron. Your family must be proud.

I wouldn’t send them either. Look, unlike the LSU game in 2019, this is an 11:00 AM game. That slot is, typically, reserved for the likes of Vanderbilt, Purdue, Illinois, UConn, Buffalo, Marshall, and Texas.

Said differently, this isn’t a prime time, elite matchup. This will be over and done with by halftime. I’ve seen the spread at -21, and Alabama will most certainly cover, I think Alabama will win by at least 5 touchdowns.

Why go through all the trouble of sending the band, their gear, having to wake up extra early to practice formations, make the trek to their stadium, when the game will resemble Alabama playing a directional school?

Give the band the weekend off.

We will show Texas how it's done when the Horns return to Tuscaloosa. The Texas band won't be in the upper deck.

Texas Tech and West Virginia do this so turnabout is fair play on an SEC team you never play?? What a lib sounding comment.

What??
If this is how Bama operated they would send their band to the uppers at SEC games as well.
This hack is what we call journalists nowadays.

Remember everyone, it's the liberals who insist on viewing everything that ever happens in their lives through a political lens.

The liberals.

A decision he will soon be unmaking for visiting conference bands when Texas joins the SEC.

SEC has rules around where visiting conference fans and bands can be placed in the home team's stadium.
