i'd take both eric reid and jamal adams over landon collins every damn time if i had the choice. its not even a comparison in my opinion. landon collins wouldnt beat either of those two guys out at safety. he would have to play another position.

But if Landon came out of college with zero rings but a 1st round pick, do you really think that makes him a bigger success than a 2nd round pick, plus All American and national champion?

Eric Reid was a 4* player who was drafted 18th in the NFL draft. He won an SEC Title and was an All-American.

Landon was a 5* player who was drafted 33rd in the NFL draft. He won two SEC Titles and one NC.

I would say the person (Eric Reid) who had the lower ranking coming out of high school and was drafted higher is the bigger success. I don't think this is debatable.

Now you would be correct in saying that Bama had more success as a CFB program than LSU while these two players were there.

I hope this helps.

And are we just comparing any safeties over the past few years? Because I'm guessing Ha Ha should probably have a say here.

21st overall, not far behind Reid, but 2 National Championships during his time and a SEC championship.

Or how about Mark Baron? 7th overall pick and 2 National Championships.

The entire notion that he would have been drafted higher if he went to LSU is some weird swamp fantasy.

You do realize they're saying Collins would probably rather have the money than the championship rings, correct?

Eh, hard to say for sure.

They changed and lowered the money 1st round kids get a ton a few years back.

Probably a difference of about 2 million a year. Which is a good bit for us common folk, but considering he's probably making near 6 million a year already, it's not that much.

When he gets older, I think he'd probably appreciate the national championships and the experience more than the money difference.

I'd be happy to make league minimum.

Now he's a "solid Pro". Fact is, we don't know how he'll turn out. Maybe he dominates. Maybe he busts. He's 3 years out of high school. I thought Trent Richardson and Mo Claiborne would be good pros. You just look silly when you say no one gives a shite about Landon Collins. Your fanbase has been melting over him since he crashed the site.

Remember when LSU fans used to troll Alabama fans about LSU victories?

And now it's "That 5 star recruit you stole out of our backyard, you know, the won a national championship, was an all American, and that got drafted #33 overall, HE SUCKS!!!"

I would say the mighty have fallen but for LSU it was just regression to the mean.

Bama doesnt have a draftable secondary player on their starting roster

If Cy Jones runs a sub 4.5 40 he will be drafted in the 3rd or 4th round. Tony Brown will likely start at the other corner. He's two years away from being drafted in the firs 3 rounds. Hootie Jones may start at one safety. He's 3 years away from being drafted. Geno Smith could be taken in the 5th-7th rounds if he has a solid year and runs well.

Every player in Bama's starting secondary will play in the leauge. Hell, Nick Perry got a UDFA contract. Vinnie Sunseri was drafted in the 5th round coming off an ACL injury last year.

FIFY

Says the LSU fan posting in this thread started by another LSU fan about a player all LSU fans desperately wanted 3 years ago and then spent the last 3+ years making excuses about.

Landon Collins according to LSU fans:
Committed to Bama - only did so for a girl (even though he's multiple times said he wanted to go to Bama since 10th grade)
Went 3-0 against LSU - he's a liability in pass coverage. i'm so glad we didn't get him.
Won 2 SEC Championships & 1 National Title - talent around him. would have had a better career at LSU.
Drafted 33rd overall - see! NFL knows he can't cover that's why some one traded up to make sure to get him before someone else did and then committed millions of dollars to him.

I don't care how obsessed you think LSU fans are with this kid right now, I'm talking about in 5 years. He will be an average NFL safety that no one outside of his fanbase will be talking about.

The only people who look silly in this thread are the Bama fans who keep brining up something that happened 3 years ago.

Are they wrong? Saying he wouldn't have started for LSU is ignorant because he's better than Ronald Martin, and it isn't even close. However, it's time for you guys to admit that he's not a very good coverage safety.

According to your fanbase he was a first round lock and likely to be a top 10 pick. Instead, he was the 6th DB (2nd safety) taken in the draft.

Let me be clear here, there's nothing wrong with getting drafted in the 2nd round. However, with Collins' size and ability as a tackler, him dropping to 33rd suggests that teams felt he was nothing more than an in the box safety who couldn't be trusted in coverage.

He will likely be moved to SS where his talent is best utilized and have a long, albeit unspectacular, career in the league. Again, there's nothing wrong with that at all.

LSU needs to beat Bama before they start talking trash about our players. He may not have been good in you opinion, but your team got beat.
